***OKIES in the BYC III ***

What did you have to do to get the incubator? I am thinking of calling our OSU extention office today. We have 4 eggs ready to set (1 blue splash maran, 2 cuckoo maran and 1 golden salmon maran) I will probably get more in the next 2 days those are just from yesterday. I want to try it before we invest in an incubator of our own.

Cathie

What I had to do was go to an orientation meeting, and rent the incubator and buy the eggs for $15.00. It might be different for you. Just call your office.

Poco, the baby beards are the cutest thing ever lol Those flat marbles is a great idea for their water.

Cathie, babies are precious! I hatched 8 Cochin babies & ordered 15 Silkie babies from a hatchery last summer and had one of the best times of my life raising them. I'd never paid much attention to baby chicks before and was just fascinated by them.

Sooner, I know how scared you must be about your daughter. She sounds like a perfectionist from things you've said, maybe it's just her bodies way or telling her not to be so hard on herself. I'm certainly hoping for the best.

Jim, when's that Pryor show? I'd sure love to see an elderly gentleman such as yourself having a fit (as you said) but I think it's probably too far for me :D

I still haven't gotten my 2' heating pad from Amazon! Supposed to be here today now but I don't hold off much hope. I wanted to make sure I had that before ordering my Dubia. It's already Wed so the Dubia won't ship out til Monday at this point anyway. Dang. I want my bugs! I'm loving these Hissers. I did feed a few of the males to the chickens. My big Cochins & my Silkie bachelors were scared of them

and ran screaming when the bug moved. The Cochins hid in the corner of their pen until I took The Monster Bug away, hilarious. The hens in the laying yard and the Faverolles had no qualms about them though-they loved them! I only need a 1 to 10 ratio of males to females so I still have lots of males. Can't wait to get my Dubia.
Bill, did you get yours?

Good morning all. I too will have chicks in the brooder tonight. My friend out west of town called this morning and said I had lots of chicks hatch from the eggs I took him. Sounds like it will be a good hatch at Carls too. Then after reading all the posts on the styrofoam incubaters I took someone on heres advice (sorry cant remember who) and wrapped it in a blanket. I put 41 eggs in it 3 days ago. I look in the little window on top several times during the day and evening so I can see the thermometor and it has not fluxuated a degree so far. If all goes well by the first of march I should have about 150 young ones. That is more than I got hatched all last year.

Fixing to head to OKC to VA to talk to Doc about one more surgery on head, and also them installing a device in my skull so I will be on my way to hearing out of that side. I cant help thinking I might look like the Borg from Star Trek after they get done with me. Resestance is futile

Does anyone listen to the Chicken Whisper?? He has upcoming topic called "killing them with Kindness" Its not about butchering.

WElcome Jon! Tell us about your chicken hobby! We are all just plain folks who love our chickens and love talking about them. We also like other critters too!

I have some questions maybe someone can help me with. Anyone have a paypal account? Is it safe? Is it easy to set up? Is there a lot of work to maintain it? How do you put money in or take your money out? Since I started selling my hatching eggs everyone wants to use paypal for quicker service. Is it really quicker? Thanks for any info.

Okla - I have PayPal account and as far as I can tell it is safe, convenient and easy to use and maintain. Never have had any problems with it. There are several options to choose from when setting up an account but the one I use is just for money to go into and out of. My son has that type of account also, but he has their credit card, too. He likes that part. It's more like a debit card, really, because he can only use it if there is money in the account that the card is attached to. I've sent money to him that way. I just transfer money from my personal bank account to his PayPal account. Very easy to use and the money gets there immediately.

Edited to add that I have purchased items from eBay and other online retailers using PayPal. IMO, it's the way to go. Transactions are immediate and no hassle.

Glad you found us here on the Okie thread! Where in Oklahoma do you live? How many and what kind of chickens do you have?
