***OKIES in the BYC III ***

PoCo like the others said, its fine to do that. If you are using it for batting you will want a top that is darker so the colors won't show thru. I hit the thrift store and get all the blankets I can and use them for batting too. You can sometimes buy brand new blankets cheaper than cotton! They tend to make the quilt a little heavier but thats not a bad thing on a cold night.!lol

Patiently waiting for a trader friend to show up either today or tomorrow from across the state. She is bringing me a satin mini buck and dwarf buck rabbits and we are doing some chicken tradeing as well!

Had these triplets born early this morning! Guess these are my valentine present! lol First albinos I have ever had! First pic is mom a couple of days ago, about to pop!

Love the pig pictures Wayne. Did you guys ever get any snow?

Most thermometers read lower when the humidity is raised. If the temp was right on before adding humidity do not adjust it.
I set the incubator and hatcher in this manner:
Step 1. set ventilation so temps are stable all across. allow to stabilze between readings 1-2 hours
Step 2. set Temperature allow to stabilize after adjustments 1-2 hours
Step 3. adjust humidity using sponges to increase surface area of water. Never adjust humidity with ventilation blocking. Allow to stabilize for 3-4 hours between adjustments.
Thank you so much! I had been running the incubator at a stable temp for weeks before I added the eggs, water and sponges....so it's now running several degrees cooler than it was and isn't coming up? I did remove the plugs for ventilation just now...but I hope to get this figured out on this batch of eggs before the next two batches go into hatch! MAkes me nervous.

Thanks for the links Carl. I lost all of my favorites when my computer crashed last week. It is funny when I go to a website that I had bookmarked before, and bookmark them now. I get the popup saying I already have this bookmarked do I want to override it. But it dang sure aint in my bookmark list. Just another of the millons of things about this machine I dont understand.

Well I could order some, but aren't most hatchery's not shipping for another month or so? I thought they wouldn't ship in winter. Believe it or not there are NO chickens close by that I know of. None on Craigslist and none posted at Atwoods. Maybe I could try the Co Op?

Yes, it's either Cackle Hatchery or Ideal that is in TX and has all the chickens you would desire...I've ordered for shipments in early Feb before...the other hatchery is in MO, so either one would work...the one is in cameron TX...

I don't think I can handle 100, even for a little while. I did see small order specials on a few sites. I would rather get them locally, but if that's not possible I will order online. I'm not picky about the breed as long as they're heat and cold hearty. I would like Barred Rocks, but I don't have to have them. Older pullets instead of chicks are better, but I know they're harder to find.

I saw on Craiglist a place that has day old chicks...and there's Country Hatchery near me in Seminole...they would be able to get you some eaily...they have a web site...

There's an auction in Coweta this Friday. It's at the fairgrounds. I'm not sure of the address. I'm going to have to google it. People can bring cages at noon but the sale doesn't start until six p.m.

If you were closer I would offer to go in with you on an order I am wanting about a dozen barred rock pullet chicks and probably that many buff orphingtons. I am hoping to find some at auction this weekend since my babies in the house are almost 2 weeks old we are at the place where we can move them to the brooder in the feed house and start a new batch in the house.

Bethany has an auction with chickens, I think it's twice a month...Maude auction has lots of chickens each week on Thurday night?

Do you have the website address to the one in seminole? Looking on the website for cackle hatchery now. :)

Bummer. I wish I could get to an auction. They have been too far to drive too considering how late they start. Good luck to you this weekend.
