Your local Co-op wil have bulk seed in all of those, I know here we can buy 50lb bags, but they also keep some broke down into 5 and 10lb brown bags..

I live in town so don't have room to by true bulk seeds of any kind.

anyone looking for old english, someone is advertising on craigslist about bringing ,,,,,"national show quality" birds to coweta auction.

be very wary of anyone doing this, this is not very likely to be true!

national show quality birds dont go to auctions like this except by accident or because someone doesnt know what they have.

a breeder wont be advertising 'NATIONAL SHOW QUALITY" birds either, unless they list where they have been shown, and how they placed.

if anyone can reply to craigslist add's, i would like to know who this is please.

got an update,from a freind of a freind of a guy i know.

these birds ARE from a very good breeder, i am sure they are not "national show quality", but should still be some good breeders to start with.

i called the breeder, and he did NOT describe the birds in this way. the person that posted the add was the one that used that description.

wish i could be there for the auction, but i am commted to another sale.

You might also try Estes Hatchery. They have over 98% true sexing. Two years ago I ordered 200 RIR pullets and 100 Bard rock pullets from them. They sent 12 extra chicks. All total there were only 8 roosters in the whole bunch.

Wow did anyone watch the dog show? I didn't see the pekeniese coming in first at all! I was expecting either the shepard or the doberman but was hoping for the dachsund! There were sure some beautiful dogs showed. Wish they would telivise a chicken show!

looked up avian gout- apparently too high of protein can cause serious issues- now my question- in the winter i feed higher protein and to my surprise the girls started laying again! why would higher protein cause that?

Oh that's easy. through the winter a bird uses so much of it's feed just to stay warm. Plus layer's pellets are formulated for battery birds, if a bird can't move around it expends less enery so it needs less nutrition to lay. A free-ranging layer also needs less nutrition.

Through the winter I will often feed at least an 18% ration and often a 24% grower but with the grower you have to suppliment with oyster shell.

Now on a more serious note... eveyone please remind me... eggs move to hatcher on Sundays.. No matter how many other things I'm doing this has to be done... I came home to find a whole bunch of chicks in my incubator.. I have a variety that always hatches early and they did now I have a messed up hatch with 3 different matings that I can't identify correctly.. AHH I could or should kick myself.

Perhaps you should set yourself an alarm on your phone to remind you to move them each Sunday. OR you could use the Teach method of hatching and set quail eggs the same day you set your chicken eggs. The cheeping quail that hatch 3 days before the other eggs are due to hatch will help you remember to move the chicken eggs to the hatcher.

Hello everyone,
I just got back from the council meeting and everything went smoothly.
The board approved the request so now we have an "OFFICIAL" date for POOPS.
It will be Saturday, May 5 at the Choctaw Creek Park Pavilion in Choctaw.
We will be forthcoming with more details as we get things set up.
Be thinking of things that you can donate that can be used for the annual raffle.
I appreciate everyone who has offered to help and I am sure we will be able to find a place for you.
Sooner is once again heading up the Tee shirt promotion and will be helping with the food planning as well.
I will let everyone know the plans as they come together.
So chat it up on the thread about POOPS and make your plans to be there.

Funny you should mention this today. Just this morning in my mail box I got the new Cackle Hatchery catalog. Lots of great color pictures in it. Little high on some of the chicks, but I am just tight.
