Wel my first pic came out wasnt for sure on this new form..This is a yote we cot to day . Had a great time at the sale last night seen lots of bycers ..Injoyd seeing the pic;s from down east Banjo.thanks for posting Injoyd seeing all the great pics an reading some of u peep's story's . Just googled it saw pics of the evil grass it is called burmuda.


I looked further it could also be crab grass, they both looked very similar to me.

we always called it devil grass.... impossible to get rid of

Robin here is one I made last year inside a building out of pallets. Got a divider in the middle annd worked great for 2 hens at a time.

thtat will work- i need to throw something together and these two gals are hard to contain!

I'm not sure what the real name of runner grass is, it's the kind that forms large runners like strawberries, that fan out across the yard forever, it grows straight through concrete.

Kass, I thought that's probably what you were talking about-bermuda. I'd give anything to get that stuff started in our yard again. It'll choke out all the weeds and stickers. You just don't know how lucky you are lol

I have Bermuda in places here the geese and chickens like it, there is the nicest lawn of it all around my garden area been like that all winter, I know most folks love the stuff but there isn't a garden barrier that it can't get over, around, or through and once covered in it all non-poly-styrene items will be consumed it's far worse than the Borg resistance is futile the synthetics will survive in some form only it will take a tractor to pull it all up.
I have tried to kill it out and failed I'm thinking a chicken pen on the areas will be the end of it and if that can't kill it I'll call in the other troops, Geese, Goats, and Piggies, I am not a fan of Bermuda grass LOL I also don't like and have none on my place is the stickers goat heads I guess there is another kind that is also called the same, I bought some small bales of Bermuda that was offered as clean and it was full of stickers, I didn't find them at first but I lost a few hens to something that caused them to gasp and not able to breathe well, I thought it was just them getting sick and then learned that they can get the goat heads stuck in their craw or throat and hurt them, I cleaned out all the hay and burned it Started having a lot less problems from hens in that pen and luckily it didn't get started on my place, that stuff is almost as tough as Bermuda to kill out

Next sale at Newcastle will be March 17 but they will have a chicken show on the 3rd

Metzford, I don't know who's fault it is? I'm glad he will be here to fix it this morning.

Yesterday was a wonderful day, I stayed out most of the day. I got alot cleaned up but there is still alot more to go.

I've got more work to do on that bed I was working on yesterday, and clearing a space for growing chicken fodder in the back yard, and chipping the cuttings of the wisteria. Don't know how much I'll be able to get done, I'm sicker today then I was yesterday. My chicken coop is at a temp stand still for now, I need to buy the hardware cloth type wire, and I need quite a bit of it, the design of the coop is going to be able to be almost totally open, or closed (not totally still plenting of venting when it is closed) but it is going to need quite a bit of wire, so there is a slight budget pause in construction.

looks like a busy week for me, yep that girl is still broody, so i need to make another broody pen.... guess i'll have some chicks for sale at the eastern okie get together!

Have the day off today and slept in a wee bit going to work on pens today again I'm splitting some larger pens into smaller ones so I can separate more Roosters with their own grils

Ksane - beets are a vegetable.

We used to pickle beets with vinegar, cloves and other spices in jars, but we cooked them first. They'll keep for a long time and taste great that way, if you like beets. I like them pickled that way but not sure how they'd taste without all the spices. It's worth a try to see how they turn out.
Edited to add that I haven't pickled beets in several years. If you'd like for me to find the recipe, I'll look for it. They might turn your eggs pink.

I wanted the beet juice on purpose to turn the eggs pink They're whole canned beets so they should work pretty well pickled. I'm going to start out simple 1st and see how it goes.

chickens will kill Bermuda grass - and eat the runners as they try to come through the chain link fence to repopulate the chicken yard.

Put the chickens on the Bermuda grass that you want gone. It will take a few weeks, but it will be gone from the place the chickens had access to.
