If you know which hatchery they order from, you can check what's on the assrt bantam list. I'm sure there are others, but that's the main one I saw on most of the hatchery lists I was looking at that would be both feather footed and bearded besides Silkies, and they're easy enough to tell. We're going to look at the new shipment at our feed store tomorrow. Feather footed for their lists included Brahmas, Cochins. Are Salmon Faverolles also bearded, booted bantams. Not too many common ones I can think of off hand that are both.

I can say it's not an age thing, I'm not your age a bit younger as we both know but feel this weather worse than many my own age and some much older.. Dont like it one bit.. hurt from knees to finger tips, and most parts in-between

Okay so I was inspired to post some pics, not as pretty as Kass's, but you might find my camera hogging turkey entertaining. This is how more than half my photos ended up

Yes, I know I'm breaking some kind of rule mixing species, but they appear to be just fine with it.

Chipmunk banty, he's gonna be my sickly kid, I keep having to clean his vent and in return he pooped in my two year old's hand

I just thought this one was funny with the other in the back telling him to quit hogging the camera

Adorableness!

I agree that the weather is disagreeable!!

I have been hurting for a while. Arthritis is a kicker. My knees and shoulder don't want to work.

On a poultry note.....
When should I expect my turkey to start laying eggs. She hatched last summer. My Tom has started mounting her this week. I figure that she should be getting there soon.

Our feedstore only has plans for BOs, CX, BRs and a couple other layer Xs besides the bantam assts. Making for a rough time helping the 4H kids get birds. Hoping between BYC peeps in OK/MO/KS area and POOPs to get everyone taken care of.

Our cuckoo boys are the same, they do have tussels now and then but they live happily in a 4' x 14' coop together. They will be a year old in May. Our girls that were hatched with them laid eggs for a while but then quit for the past month or so and are just now starting to lay again. They are in the laying hen coop, I don't plan on breeding them right now.

I've only gotten a single dark brown egg one time. I figured it was because they were born later in the year or something (July). I'm really impressed with how easy-going they are. They get along with everyone and the 2 boys are in the layers yard together and get along just great (unlike my Cochin boys :-/)

love that first shot! gotta love those faces! on pasty butt, smear some vaseline on their toosh, that will help-

any tips and tricks for a noob on hatching in a bator? and one of my broodies i finally moved into the bathroom yesterday, she has been so obstinate about being moved, well, one of her eggs chirped at me today!

I planted onions....when and with what do you fertilize them?

I use compost when I first put them in the ground. When they are about 6" tall, I fertilize with blood meal. I fertilize once more when they are about a foot tall. Do not add fertilizer within 30 days of harvesting your onions. You don't want to alter their flavor

I think you can use ammonium sulfate, but I don't know anything about how to apply it. Blood meal comes in powder form. You can mix it with water and apply it like fertilizer tea. There are instructions on the package. I think two pounds will cost about five dollars. I've heard about using soybean meal, but I don't know where one would buy it.
