Rebecca, are you going to have broodys hatch all your eggs?
I have eggs here in my incubator out of the batch of Bantam Favs I gave Carl to hatch and one of them is tweeting so loud I can hear him 10' away. He's MAD and he wants out lol His name is Lancaster

I am going to use broodies as much as possible but have already talked to our hatching guru Carl. I now have three dang broodies. Of course one is my millie fleur hen.

I have had that happen with a chick being loud still in the shell, but you may have to help it out. If it is left too long it will sufficate

If your eggs arrive and you don't have enough space in your incubator (or under your broodies), send me a message. I have about one tray space (40 eggs) empty in the Sportsman right now.

I'm not sure if any of ya'll remember me but I was around for a while several years back. Things at that time forced me to abandon my chicken dreams for a while and I drifted away from the forum. I'm back and I have a plan. I've got some storage space that I can turn into a chicken coop/closet and a spot in the back yard I can turn into a run.

I really want to go to TSC or Atwoods this weekend and pick up some chicks. Really, really, really want to in fact. But I'm trying to hold off as I don't have anything together yet and need to spend some time scrounging up supplies to build my run with (the welded wire is gonna be pricey!).

Anyhow, since I'm lurking again I figured I would actually say "howdy".

Welcome back! Just get the chicks, you know you want to. That's how I did it and can probably vouch for the majority of us. Well I know there are a few on here who had more restraint, I am not one of them.

You may want to ask the Post Office folks if they'd like some eggs....when I went early in the morning to pick up about my third batch of hatching egss, they three ladies that work there all said they sure would like to buy some farm fresh eggs! You may have a built in business....

Some of my co-workers have been asking for eggs, so I think I have a market for my extra eggs.

Been out doing further introductions to the gang and found my Welsummer roo laying in the bottom of his pen no damage and hasn't been ill just stopped living I guess, I'll be looking for his replacement then, he was from eggs I hatched that I got at POOPS last year so he wasn't old no idea what could have caused it,

Hey NoCityBoy, I was thinking the same thing. That pond is obviously too crowded and in desperate need of thinning. I have a little time I can donate to the cause next week, at no cost to Lightfoot.

I grew nasturtiums allot in California but never had much luck with them here. I like to eat them too but never knew they were bug repellents.

Are nastutiums related to marigolds. Marigolds are a natural source of pyrethin which is awesome pestacide.

Finally caught up on reading 100+ posts for today. Good thing I had a nap first so I could stay awake long enough to read them all.

Bill - When you have a turtle shooting or fishing party, let me know. Looks like a nice pond to do both. Have you contacted the Dept. of Wildlife to see if they'll stock your pond? I don't know all the rules, but have heard that they'll do that. Can't help on identifying your new companion. I'm not a dog person really, and big ones scare me anyway. Little ones I can deal with, but for some reason they all like me. My son has a German Shepperd that is huge. Very friendly and big baby, but he still scares me. Several incidences with large dogs have probably tarnished my view of them.

WOW, I spend one afternoon outside getting the garden all cleaned, tilled and ready and there are 12 plus pages to catch up on !
Anyone want to help plant onions today ?????????? LOL
Hope it is nice again this afternoon, but bet I will be creaking around like an old woman tomorrow after I get those 5 bunches of onions set out.
Very interesting about the grashopper spore and all the other ideas for Murphys oil soap and bug killers.

Does anyone have any good ideas or tips for a calf that has a front leg thats knuckled under just above the hoof ?
He is an Angus, Longhorn cross, about 2 weeks old, a co worker gave him to me, she was not able to get him to tke a bottle very well, the momma cow would not have much to do with him. He can get up and walk, hobbles around fairly well, was a lot more spy after he got some electrolytes and a couple of bottles of milk replacer in him yesterday. Had a bow legged calf about 25 years ago, but for the life of me can not remember what was done for his bow legs.

Good gravy, yall were a chatty bunch yesterday! I don't have time to catch up today, my office is doing outreach at a children's consignment sale at the Shawnee Expo center. Hope everyone who is showing does well today, I am envious of you that get to plant gardens today, I need to be doing that. Maybe if I get done in Shawnee today I canget home in time to do some work on my garden. Prayers for anyone that was or had family in the paths of all these tornadoes going on east of us okies.

Hello...I don't post much...can't keep up with such a busy thread,

But I've raised dairy goats for many years, and it wasn't uncommon to have a kid born with a foot broke over at the pastern. If you have a good relationship with your local vet, get him some BoSe...it's injectable vitamin B and selenium. A deficientcy of those can contribute to the issue...and giving some will help improve it. Our soil in Oklahoma is deficient in selenium, and the B vitamin helps for abosorption. I always gave a shot of it to each of my does a month before kidding....and any kids born with pastern issues. Ok...here is what I did when I had this issue and it helped, but it takes consistancy and patience. If he will stay lying down and still for you, you can do "physical therapy" on his foot. You hold his leg, and slowly extend the foot out into the correct position, hold it there and count to 10 or 15, or even 20. At first, you probably won't be able to pull it out completely into normal position, but go as far as is comfortable for the calf and hold it. Pull the foot back into the bent position, only go ahead and push slowly in as far as you can and again hold it for the same amount of time. Then back out again, working it in and out several times. This stretches the tendons, and is usually successful. You need to do it as often as you can each day until the issue is resolved. Splinting is hard to do because of the location, and the tendons are contracted anyway. I hope this helps!

Good Day Everyone!! staying busy outside I am really liking the weather it's nice out and tomorrow is supposed to be even better, I think the new pupster has a girlfriend already he has been awol all morning he was for a while last night came in for a bite to eat and left again, I need to get him fixed if he's gonna hang out and live here although I bet he would make some really nice looking pups I always spay or neuter them it's just the right thing to do and out here it can save them from being shot,

Wayne are you from Ada? I lived there for a long time over the years I'm not from there but moved there to find work after I got out of the army it sure has grown a lot since then.

Is everyone at the show in Pryor? We didn't make it to the talk in Collinsville. I planted two pecan trees on Thursday and then three more on Friday, and I woke this morning with cramps in my lower back. I think I must have overdone it. I've only got five more to put in the ground, so I'm going to slow down and plant one per day from now on.

The seeds I planted this week are starting to sprout. I've got sugar snap peas and brussels sprouts well ahead of the sunflowers and tomatoes. I need to put some paw paw seeds into containers today. I hope I can get them to grow. I may have to get some grafted stock next year if these don't germinate.
