So I was reading up on crested ducks, I had no idea about the breeding the like resulting in brain less birdsand all the defects that can happen too. That's just awful. Why isn't that common knowledge? Even Storey's guide to ducks downplays the bad genetics, it just says about 25% won't live.... Missing an important part of the story yet again storey, thanks. No wonder my crested duckling is acting special, he probably is.![]()
Started 32 tomato plants today.... I have a brown thumb, great with animals, awful with plants..... wish me luck.
With the crested breeds the crest is supposed to develop on top of the skull with the bottom side being closed off.
It is known as a vaulted skull. But with some birds the vault doesn't close off and the brain can be easily damaged because it lacks the support on the top side. That is why crested breeds have more neorological problems then other birds do.
