***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Barn swallow I always take lots of road trips & vacations when dh is gone. Since he is a workaholic he doesn't enjoy vacation time- he would rather do a project. I say take a road trip to poops. I am sure the kids wouldn't mind missing school! Or you could wait until the June get together coral is planning. Y'all can come visit ballif.

Woodpeckers don't destroy trees, though it often looks like that. The are eating the insects that ARE working on destroying the trees.
I do need to find out what type is visiting our place. The sap sucker is after sap not insects. We don't have a huge amount of the birds, I have only ever seen 2 at the same time.

That's what I ordered a few years back. I think that Myers hatchery is in Ohio. I've heard a lot of good things about them, but when I was about to place an order with them, I found a better bargan at Mt Healthy hatchery that could ship that week, also in Ohio. They have a nice selection of package deals for eaten birds. If you would like to check it out, their web site is http://www.mthealthy.com/

I would NOT order from Mt Healthy again. Bought 150 chicks last spring. Within a week their salmonella outbreak hit the news. They never communicated with me about the outbreak. Not even an email. That is very poor customer service IMO.

I didn't have any problems. In fact they seemed extra healthy, (no pun intended) but like I said, that was a few years ago. Things change. Still, I couldn't turn down 200+ chickes for $35.oo plus shipping.

Myers hatchery does have great coustomer service and good prices too. The best part is, they will work with you if you have any problems.

JCatblum: Believe me a POOPS trip is tempting but we must sit tight here for now.. a June thing maybe more plausible.. but we will have to see considering there are projects already lining up to be dealt with..ha ha ... like taking down the 129 year old lathe and plaster that is cracking down the side of the walls in sons room..lol

How is Bailiff ... hope he is behaving..

Sooner: your assumption is correct...

Where is that on the site? I see the 100 for $35 and the 200 for $50 (holy crap what great prices!) You think that's because they had an outbreak a while back and their business is not what it used to be?

Ha Ha. I have one only she would just show you her butt! Like with one leg straight up in the air!

LOL! Independant little buggers aren't they... i don't do that many cats so its extra challenging

I have two black cats, but I don't think the faces are all that similar to that one. I could try to get a picture in a similar pose, but you know how cats are. LOL

My big problem with this one is the lack of detail - i have restarted it a couple times- she wants the tail curled a bit up so i will be photoshopping alot of it, before painting it- so even a seperate body pic and head pic could be useful

I do have a pic very similar. If I find it I'll post it, but it may not be this week. How soon do they want the portrait done?

Quote: mine didn't start laying last year till summer and fall- we currently have two seperate groups slowly merging into a flock, except for one little one that seems to hang at the fringes

Robyn, sure this won't help but this is the only picture of one of our black cats that I have here at work. She is full grown now.

awww. what a precious shot!!

At the point i really don't know that the mystery will be solved- but my poor chickens aren't happy- i was letting them out daily, i enjoy watching them out- but not if it is risking them like that- one of my issues is my FIL(we share ten acres) is a hoarder of old junk, so there is alot of *stuff* laying around that they might have gotten into- this whole episode has opened my eyes to dangers i didn't think of before- could be car chemicals in the dirt in some of the area that the rain has mixed with- so whatever it was, i will be watching real close the next few weeks at their behavior-

My hatching eggs that the mailman has more than likely already dropped off are possibly sitting on my front porch in this aweful weather, think they will be ok for a while?

I would be worried about the temperature of the eggs. They have been cold in the mailtruck getting tossed around all day. There is a huge thread on hatching cold eggs from Trader Joes, so eggs can hatch after being chilled. Keep in mind our wind chill was showing it felt like 24 earlier.

~~Barnswallow, Bailiff does well. He doesn't chase cars or birds. However, I do find him chewing on the goats occasionally. He wants to wrestle with them like they are dogs. If I can ever break Bailiff from eating eggs we will be doing really good! Last wk, I had the patio door cracked open, 18 pack of eggs on the counter & he pushed the door open & ran out with the eggs! He is a sneaky thing. When I am out doing chores he keeps my stride & stays right at my hip waiting for me to pet him. When people come up to our place he stands in front of the door & they are often scared to knock. I really don't think he is keeping them from coming in. I think he knows the door will open soon & he wants a chance to get in the kitchen to see if there is any scraps in the chicken bucket. Crazy dog seriously takes the lid of the bucket before I can even get to the kitchen. He has made his self right at home.
