***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I have brocolli, will have to ask Carl about the cabbage. I know the asparagus will need a permanent bed. Im working on it. Hoping to take next weekend looking for more lumber. Going to get a little bit of a late start planting outside this year, but it will be worth it.

Hey everyone..

I must say this talk of sinks and butchering what not has made me rethink selling the triple stainless steel sink we are aquiring with the farmhouse along with the stainless steel table and butcher table(we sold the rest of the bakery equipment... because VA said so... humph... the house was gonna come with a brick stone oven and 2 industrial sized mixers..) Now if only I can convince Buster and his beloved wife to come out to our place once we have fat plump chickens and turkeys... (but I guess I gotta buy some of that meat goodness first)

Has anyone gotta clue as to how to keep the posts at 75 per page instead of this 15 with the new set up.. its insane going through so many "pages"

We havd a great time last night in Blanchard. We didn't buy much just a few dog cages (aka rooster houses, lol) some itty bitty sweet banty cochin chicks (Kurt is over the moon with them) and a pair of Light Brahma banty cochins that Jackson wanted. Had to pay dearly for those but you know when those little 7 year old blue eyes look at you and say "pleeeese" well I am a goner! Sometimes it just pays to be the baby of 6 lol.

It was great to put names and faces together. We stayed until around 11, I had held out for a few of the barred rock hens but they went for way more than I wanted to pay. I will hold out till next week, since I was advised to save some money for next week, lol.

Well gotta get back out and check on the chicks that have been sick with cocci, death toll is at 3 but haven't lost any since yesterday afternoon. Hoping and praying we don't loose anymore. These are my barred rock babies that I hope to use for breeding next year.

On our wish list for POOPS, Jackson still wants a girlfriend for his buff banty cochin rooster. Not in a rush for one since he has his set he has been wanting but he still wants a mate for his boy.

I will be bringing some blue splash marans/blue andalusion chicks if I can get some to hatch. We just put her in his pen this weekend so no eggs from her yet. Hope they have some cute babies, lol.

The cool thing is the actress who plays you is a real life genius.

As am I ...

Sorry, couldn't resist. Seriously, I didn't know that, and that is cool!

Buster have you checked the farm diversification grant out? The info is at Oklahoma dept of ag site. They will fund your processing center if you do the paper work, I think if you are needing more than $5000 you have to put up 50% of the money.

Did you see the plucker on YOUTUBE that the folks homesteading leased to use? It was really cool. They had 3 at a time in it....

Just wanted to take a second to put in a good word for Teri AKA Amy Farrah Fowler. I met with her and picked up the 4 Orloff girls this morning and they're beautiful, more importantly (to me) they're super healthy. No lice, no mites, great body weight and feathers are in perfect shape. These birds have very obviously been well cared for and I appreciate that very much. So if anyone's interested in her Speckled Sussex boy you'd be lucky to have him. Thanks, Teri-I adore these girls very much and I'm grateful they're mine. I'll take good care of them.

Thank you for the kind words Mitzi. It was awesome to get to meet you in person finally. Wish the weather had been more cooperative and we could've visited a bit. So happy you're pleased with the girls, I know they couldn't ask for a better home. Good luck with them!

Hey Buster, We were thinking about making one others could use to process their own birds. The idea is to make a kind of moble processing unit with the everything all together on a trailer to just hitch up and take where ever there be birds that need to be keelt. hehehe! We were thinking stainless steel for most everything. The scaulder would have a propane heater with one of those small bottles attached. Bill has a stainless steel table we can use for processing. We were thinking if we could find on of those stainless steel sinks you see in restaurants or cafeterias would be great for cooling tubs. Plus we could have where you just hook a garden hose so you can use the sink as a sink as well.
I do know about how we would charge a fee. Personally I have been thinking of a maintance fee or something like that.

There are tons of things to use to build coops. If you can get ahold of pvc pipe, a few tarps and some chicken wire you can build some easy chicken tractors. Pallets make great coops and they are free, free, free. Freecycle is a great place because you can even request materials and stuff. I actually got a metal storage building for free on Freecycle. I need to get it put up as my second coop. I know a lot of people who have found really cool stuff on the free section on craigslist. If you go to google and type in "coops made from recycled materials", there is a plethora of great ideas.

Humm, that would be an awesome idea. Buster if you want we can work on the grant together. I have written a few grants in my time. I am thinking for a complete processing center with trailer, we are probably looking at closer to $4000, maybe a bit more. Just depends on if we can use recycled items or not. What do you think?

Bill I totally forgot you had the two stainless steel sinks. As for the floor I have a couple of ideas but I am thinking going with the metal floor and get some of those industrial no slip mats for the floor (you know the one used in restaurants in front of the sinks. That would solve the problem of slippery floors. Unfortunately I am thinking the floor is going to have to be stainless, as well. What are your thoughts on that?

Good luck on closing on your place. Sending good juju your way.

So next time he is petting the dog or one of the other animals you should ask if he is planning on eating them as well. Hahahha!!

Nice to see you on Firefly! So send me a PM on what type of cochins you are looking for. As for the ameracochin project still getting everyone situated and will hopefully start having first gens hatching by May. That's the goal at least.

You need to bring your rabbits here to sell. Dang rabbits are going for a bung load of money lately. A cute calico spotted white rex rabbit went for over $50 tonight. I don't think any rabbits went for under $15 dollars. Even the little ones were high.

Yes I let me just say I am going to be paying for it for a few days. I made Jerry sale all the crap I bought because I did not want to deal with it next week. Might ever bring some more. Just don't know yet. The crap is a double edge sword. I don't like waiting around for the birds because of it but is sure was nice being able to get rid of some stuff and making a bit of money, to boot. I went til after midnight.

Bird prices were very high tonight.

Wow, you did not buy anything! Wish I could say the same thing but am fairly okay with the stuff I got since I left with a lot more money then I came with. Whoot! Whoot!

Well it is now 4 am and I am very flipping tired. Hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the weekend. Will probably be sleeping off the rest of mine.

Thanks so much for the information! NOw you all are feeding my chicken habits and I love it! WIll check out the freecyle and craigslist.
