***OKIES in the BYC III ***

yep the good oll wally world LOL i use them every year and they allways work great they even have a cover to hold the moisture wille they sprout then when the plants are ready to plant or tranceplant to a biger pot all you have to do is move the the plant and peat pellet and plant the hole thing is as easy as pie three years ago i started 5,000 plants and was selling them but i was so so bussy with work and the farm and after 2 mounth of staying up till passed midnight getting everones orders ready and plants tranceplanted i relized that is was just to much for even this young man LOL and even though i did verry well with selling the started plants my first love is my birds so for now i will keep my green thumb for myself

I have used them the last two years. I got a few at Atwoods and a few at Wally World. You can buy refills so you don't have to buy the whole mini greenhouses every year.

Thanks to jcatblum/Christina, I just sold another 15 broilers. A friend of mine went to take over a Joel Salatin contract farm and sold a lot of his equipment to me. Well, this was one of his customers, and Christina was kind enough to send her my way! These birds are selling themselves, it seems.

Good thing, too, because I'm a terrible salesman. :)

I'm starting to worry I'll run out before the farmers market even starts. But that's okay. I can presell for the fall. That way I'll know how many to order in advance.

Thanks, everyone, for your kind words of concern regarding our basement-to-water-well conversion. That's a joke. I'm trying really hard to come to terms with the flooding. It's raining here again. I got soaked just running from the barn to the house. I even had an umbrella in the barn for emergencies, but I couldn't keep it open the whole way because the wind kept shutting it. DH and I went into the basement with flashlights: the fans and dehumidifiers are drawing so much power that the breakers will trip if we turn on any basement lights. We've always had surface cracks in the basement floor, but never water. Most of the floor down there is dry, but I could see water shining in the cracks. Now I'm convinced the flooding is ground water, and the earthquakes shook our foundation enough to widen the surface cracks into actual breaks in the floor. That soaks. (Pun intended.) See. I'm trying to compensate for my miserable mood. Maybe I should stick to sulking.

Here's some good news. While I was in the barn checking on the babies in the brooder, I heard kitten noises. One or perhaps two of our barn cats had a litter today. Both cats are in the barn sharing a box filled with old newspapers. I could only see two kittens, one orange and one black. The cats are in opposite corners of the box with kittens between them. It seems odd that they are both using the same box. It's not a big box, either, so they're pretty cramped in there. I'll have a chance to take a head count after I put food out for the adult cats tomorrow morning.

Mitzi, the reason they were out of the one i have is they have a quality control situation... sending out the advance mini instead of the manual one.....

but seriously, you can't go wrong with that brand....

i have a friend in alabama keeps begging for non-black frizzled seramas.... she wanted my girls- thought of mentioning you to her with all yours...

Adorable baby!

I know that a lot of folks keep their Serama's indoors, but in all honesty, they don't have to be. All of my Serama babies go outside and are acclimated to the outdoors. That's really all it takes - getting them used to the outdoor temperature fluctuations. It's no different than any large fowl or other bantam chicken. I know you need some Serama's, and I just happen to be overflowing in them.

coral, let us know if we can help in any way....

spent the morning mucking out the run, the drain was clogged- what a mess!! need to rethink how we are doing the drainage for it- what kind of lime do you put in the runs that is safe for the birds? no more sick birds or accidents, so maybe i got that all done for the year?? toots, the silky sleeps with a teddybear, and seems to be adjusting, feel sorry for her - but like grace said, they are prone to those kind of accidents... dave wrenched his knee in the episode, but is really upset that she got hurt...

I'll ship her some eggs, but I'm not crazy about the idea of shipping birds. I have both silkied and smooth feathered birds, but as you know, some of the smooth feathered girls throw silkied babies, so I can't guarantee the feather type - nor quality. I will only sell them as pet quality. None of mine are frizzled, though. Let me know if she's interested in the eggs.

As of today I have officially commited mass murder again this year. All my tomato and pepper seedlings are now dead. I have such a tiny space for starting them and don't seem to have the knack, but I keep trying. Most all other seeds I start I start in the garden itself which I do much better at. I am hoping I'll get better when I have a greenhouse (hopefully by next year)

If it makes you feel better I set my peppers outside and forgot to bring them in before I left. I drowned them for sure, oh well.
