***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Awesome pics everyone.

I worked in the garden all day, but didn't get everything done I wanted. I did plant about 25 of the Iraq desert tomatoes. I planted them as seed directly outside, so we'll see if they can stand up to an Okie summer or not.

Hope to work some on the coop tomorrow Gary should be home to help me.

Is it to early for planting beans? This past fall they seemed very touchy about cold so I've been holding off for a couple of weeks just to make sure about freeze/frost, do I still need to wait?

Alright Oklahomans, I need your input! We are hatching about 20 eggs (a pre-k class project) and I have a broody hen that is getting her way and getting a special place to sit on eggs. In about 21 days when the chicks hatch, will I need to have a brooder box inside the house for the babies, or will an outdoor brooder work? Will the outside temps be ok for them with a light for heat still? Can the baby chicks be put in with the mama hen after her eggs hatch? Will she keep them warm or will I need a heat lamp for them? Am I crazy for giving into the broody hen and letting her hatch some eggs??? (My husband thinks I am!)

I could use any advice or shared experience!!

When you use a broody hen you don't need any extra heat she warms the chicks. You can brood outside, I think almost everyone who uses a broody hen does so outside. And absolutely not crazy, if I had a broody she would get a batch of eggs for sure.

Got tired of trying to get the poops tshirt image to work for me as an SVG file. So I toyed around a while, and put this together. It is a black vinyl decal I cut & put on a 12x12 tile (I think it is travertine, but not certain..... It's for sure heavier than a ceramic tile)

This tile will be a riffle item at poops. If anyone has any other ideas for tiles they want me to make, or coasters just lmk & I can try my best. I have to have the images in svg file or dingbat font. I have other colors of vinyl, but did this one in black since it is pretty universal.

A broody hen is great way to go hatching a clutch. Outside in a good little hutch, she does all the work, and then after they hatch she becomes the brooder. Nothing as cool as a momma hen and her chicks running the yard. Good luck with them. Will give some advise. Even good natured hens will go ape when you mess with their eggs or chicks when they are brooding. I got ate up pretty good this morning checking on a asil/American game hen on eggs. But she was pretty agresive before nesting. She was like a buzz saw today on my hand.

send me the svg file and i'll see if i can convert it- i love this tile!!

Thanks Robin. I was able to get the poops image converted with help from elwood& ksane but it has some spots from the image that are missing, like the letter L. I tried to shadow the image, but the missing parts still didn't show up. I am going to see if one of my girls can "draw" in the missing parts on my cutting program. Or if anyone else thinks they can fill in the missing holes shoot me a PM with your email address & I can email you the svg image. I am assuming photoshop or a similar type program would be needed. Honeslty I don't know! My knowledge is limited to finding the images already made, opening the file, sizing it to my cutting mat & hit cut.

Cute tile!

Who made the a frame out of pallets??? Any pics? I couldn't figure out what to push to release the saw blades, so I sharpened the mower blades and at least got the front yard done. DH said I'm supposed to pull a pin, so hopefully I can get to some tractor construction done tomorrow.
