***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hiya Everyone, I'm counting my Chickie's as they hatch LOL I have no idea how many there are yet though I took a peek and was just in time to see one come popping out so they are still making it out I haven't disturbed them much at all and the temptation is soooo hard to resist but I will be clearing out all the hatched ones shortly and of course there will be pictures LOL, this weather is so nice I haven't turned on the AC yet I am holding out till it gets where I have to have it (maybe tomorrow if it don't snow, this is Oklahoma after all)

A big welcome to all the newer folks we are sure glad you found us we always need new people to hone our enabler skills on and although it's tough trying enabling the veteran enablers it's always a challenge

and resisting the ones that are really good at enabling is an effort in futility...

Coral (Polo Loco) can do it, maybe she can hook you up with someone near you?
Well my rooster still has not crowed, but he sure is feeling frisky. He isn't succeeding yet, but he sure is trying. My girls don't know what to think. They are all ignoring him or hiding from him. I don't think I can take it when he finally succeeds. Him trying looks so violent. I am kind of scared he will hurt the Barred Rocks I got at the auction. He was trying with them, but I don't think they're old enough. I wish I knew someone around here that caponized them. I think he may be too old by now though. Doesn't that have to be done before they get randy?

Cute babies Robyn!!! I need to go play with our newest chicks but haven't found the time yet. My plans for today was to plant greenbeans but it is to hot for this momma. Instead I cleaned up the front porch, moved the houseplants outside, and cleaned most of the livingroom. Including cleaning the 9' x 12' front window. But a little vinager, newspaper and elbow grease and it is all clean now. Now the birds can fly into it, lol. We came home from church to find my buff orphington roo had passed. Wish I knew what was wrong with him. He just started sleeping more and not coming out of their coop much lately. Not sure how old he was since we bought him at auction last winter. But he hadn't proven to be a good breeder yet since none of my BO eggs have hatched yet. I am thinking he may have just been old, since he hadn't shown any signs of illness. I have his girls in quarentine for the next week just to make sure. Well guess my break is over i hear the washer buzzer going off. Plus need to check on the little boys. Nathanael finally left his new birds long enough to play in the sprinkler with Jack, lol. Thanks again Carl he is over the moon with those birds.

WOW - what are your plans for all those quail? I have a pair right now and looking to add a few more - not for meat but eggs some and just for the fun of it.
Well Blanchard, I just don't Know. According to Google Earth your only about an hours drive from here and I bet we could work out a deal if you want "A FEW". I'm not doing any shipping Yet, I don't have the supplies. What were you thinking? AND that depends on wheather or not the next ones hatch. They should be here the middle of April, if things go as planned. You can mail me at [email protected] if you wish.Or this board is fine too.

Will do Robert!

I used to have an Oscar I named Felix, I gathered things for him to eat all year round lamp beatles, june bugs etc. I would seine out small crawdads and minnows then freeze like 6 each to the ice cube and then bag them up for winter grubs and beetles were just froze in baggies but it sure made feeding him a lot easier, having the roaches would be a great way to feed them I need to set up my 55's again and get another one or three LOL

I pulled about 40 chicks out of the bator and had about that many stuck in the shell pipped and or zipped and unable to get out so I helped several out will have to wait and see if they are going to make it so not counting those I didn't have a real great hatch rate out of 135 eggs. I have had a few that had the membrane dry to the chick as they were trying to hatch out but this time was much worse, my humidity was around 80% for the last 3 days and even had some condensation on the inside of the glass so I wouldn't think that would be the cause really, Any suggestions as to how to fix that for the next hatch or why it is happening like that?

i've got to agree with mitzi... there is just something wrong with those young roos... boppin the girls on the head and slingin em around! now Galahad isn't like that, but he is older, same with captain the cochin- now captain will run down from free ranging and dance his little heart out... so i am convinced age has something to do with it... boaz the serrama is as bad as a teenager... but joe is a gentleman...
not sure with chester, as the pullets aren't old enough yet
