***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Oh jeez, that sucks.
I had placed the tom and the 2 hens walked around here for a week solid barking like seals looking for him. I couldn't believe it was actually because they missed him, thought it was something else. Well the lady with the tom called me to tell me the tom had done nothing but gobble non-stop and could she please buy even just 1 of the hens because she couldn't find any anywhere else. So I gave her both for the price of one. 1 turkey alone would be a miserable animal.

aw, the love of turkeys, how sweet!

Modernman: I am praying for you and your family.

Ksane: I hope you can find help for the kittens. I have had mama cats in the past take in abandoned kittens. Unfortunately none of the my cats are mamas.

I hope everyone can enjoy this weather today. I have been out working on more chicken coops and runs. I also got a bunch of work done in the garden and harvested my first radishes!! I mean my first ever not just this year. LOL

I am so happy with them. The kids started munching immediately so I don't know how many I will have left soon. Even the kid who doesn't not like veggies is liking the radishes! Shhhhh no one tell him it's a vegetable.

All the babies are doing great and the chick that kept falling over and getting stuck on its back seems to have stopped and is fine now. I have no idea what it was but the vitamins must have helped or it out grew it.

I have a another question for the maran people.... Just how feathered do marans get on the legs? I bought some blue and splash marans (I thought) at Blanchard and these birds are getting BIG and a lot of feathers on the legs and feet. Beautiful birds but still they almost have pants on!

Do you think they could be something else? "hubby reading over my shoulder assures me they are chickens not 'something else' " MEN!

Shellie

Some Marans have lots of feathers on their legs and outside toes. They are called French. Clean legged Marans are caled English.

Ahh, I thought you were looking for someone who could take care of them right now! I was thinking take care of and rehome. I was interested in Poco's cause I am always looking for a completely black male cat, not that I need one, but that's what my first cat was and I miss having a cat like that. IF you can teach them to not eat chickens I might be interested in them as barn cats and could do that. I'm not sure where you would even start on teaching them to not eat chickens. There is a rescue that relocates feral and stray cats to farms as barn cats I've been wanting to call them, but too afraid they would eat the chickens! I think my husband would shoot me if I suggested keeping another indoor cat.

Our outdoor/garage cat, who is an excellent hunter, never even notices the chickens. He hangs out in the run with them. Our dog onbly seems interested in the broodys but I'm not going to test that theory.

Yea, I am-someone to take them now lol My daughter's already keeping one and I suppose I could keep one. But this 1st one needs a home, he's the boy. I actually like neutered males the best of all but for some reason never cared for this color pattern. I had a cat for 15 yrs who died a few yrs ago that looked like the 2nd picture. Dang it. And my daughter is keeping the 3rd. JUST when my house cats reach 10 yrs old and there seems to be a cat ownership end in sight stuff like this happens.

Kitten pictures!
You are merciless!
Cats rule - Chickens and dogs ina tie for close second.

those little buggers are soooooo cute. I love their little racing stripes. Do the fancy colors have stripes like the Pearls and Lavenders?

I'll check the barn kittens tomorrow to see if the black kitten is male. And yes, the two mom cats sharing the responsibility for nursing and caring for three kittens are in a cardboard box in the barn. I need to take a look at those too. I guess tomorrow is kitten inventory day. I'll post some pictures and decide if we're keeping any. They should be eating kitten chow by May 5th, so I can bring them to POOPS if people want to adopt a free kitten.

None of our cats bother the chicks, juveniles, or full grown chickens. Every now and then a chick pops out of a brooder or grow-out pen in the barn, and the cats just watch as I scramble around trying to catch the escapee. I think the cats are entertained by my lack of agility. I have a few free range roosters doing bug patrol. When I open the barn in the morning, I often find one or more roosters snuggled with Thomas, our male cat. I'll have to start carrying my camera in the morning. I've missed too many great pictures because I'm unprepared.

Well spent the. Night Hospital with jamie baby on the way.not doing. Good please keep us. In your. Prayers

NanaKat,
Your hatch this week is coming along nicely and includes at least 3 Spangled OE.
We can candle your eggs from aubrey when you come by Friday or saturday to pick them up.

Okieridge,
Have a whole bunch for you too. I placed the Black Coppers in a different tray so they can be marked. They will be ready to pick up tomorrow.
So excited!!! Especially about the little OE...lost our 4 week old little pullet this morning. Candling will be good too!

hey guys- what bird of prey is black on the underside with no white at all? all of the roos went nuts, galahad got the girls in the bushes till i got out there and they ran into the run, the bird soared away like he had been hunting- big guy

Definitely buzzards... we have them soaring here too and the roos all sound off when they see one. The newest roos even sound off when Lucy and Goosey, the Canadians, fly in for their scratch.

Looks just like Murdock did when he was little.. Wild cat had three kittens in the barn and he was the only one who would let me stick my finger in the trap....so he got to stay. he is 11 now. Great mouser...leaves me the head of his catches by the back door to let me know he is earning his keep
