***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Hope that works out for you, Bill. I've tried it before. Didn't work for me.

Yeta ate an adult mouse, and she caught it herself. The mice they have had so far have been live trapped by us and taken to the run, but today she was out and about (as usual) and found the mouse on her own and pounced w/i 15 seconds she had it dead, killed it much quicker then any cat or dog I've ever seen! But we are talking about Yeta the wonder chicken, wouldn't expect any less!!!! lol

Today I saw one of my birds eat a baby Blue Jay. Feathers, feet and all! Ack!!

I understand LOL I have the mind set though and until I'm just whupped and unsuccessful I'm convinced :)

Cowboy 6 of your eggs hatched so far. 3 are blue, only 1 has NN but I am sure there will be more soon.
Spent 4 hours moving birds around with DD. No it wasn't a 4 hour job, but with her & I doing it together it took that long. Moved chicks from inside the barn out into the real world, then some from a brooder moved to the coop inside the barn. Caught 6 Roos & put them into a pen to be dispatched at a later date. Moved this wks hatch from a brooder in the house to a brooder in the barn. Told DD she needs to figure out what chicks she is taking to poops since I think we have over 100 less than 4 wks old, of course she has only been saving her favorites.
What is everyone going to do this weekend?
Remember No auction tomorrow @ Blanchard..... Barn is being used by the school.

I hope you get more NN than that. They always ran about half and half when for us. Hopefully you get that ata least. I went to OKC VA again today in the on going saga of getting my blood back like it is supposed to be. Wasnt close today so have to change blood thinner amounts and go back next week to be stuck again.

I got home this afternoon and moved chickens around here too. Tomorrow is city wide garage sale in Clinton, so will shop all morning till I run out of steam, money or gas. Probable be the money out first. Going to be looking hot and heavy for more chicken stuff to take to POOPS and N.E.O.C.S.

Mine have caught and eaten mice, too. It's gross to watch, especially when they play keep-away with it and string it all over the place. Your Yeta sounds a Super Chicken, though. You should be proud!

Nana I hope you see this since I can't pm on my phone.

Can you post directions on canning poke salad. I wont be caning it myself, Someone was asking on another forum.
Thanks so much
Poke - canned
It takes a lot of poke to make enough to can. Two very full kitchen trash bagsof tender stem tops will yield about 2 gallons of cooked poke depending on how close you trim the leaves. Some people prefer no stems in their poke (like spinach) and some prefer some of the more tender stems in their poke.
Wash poke leaves in water several times. We set up an assembly line: strip leaves off stems and cut the stem ends then move thru two or three water baths to the cutting board. Cut bundles of washed leaves in 1 inch strips. Put in large pot with boiling water. Stir and cook until poke looses its bright green color and becomes dull green. Pour off the water (oxalic acid). Cover with fresh water and stir to rinse the cooked leaves. Pour off this second water and add just enough water to cover. At this point, the cooked poke can be cooled and placed in freezer bags. To can, heat back up. Fill clean canning jars to within 1 inch of the top, packing the poke tightly to remove the air bubbles. Top off with canning salt. (pints get 1/2 tsp and quarts get 1 tsp). Seal with hot sterile lids. Water bath for 3 hours or pressure can at 15 pounds for 15 minutes for pints and 20 minutes for quarts.

Today we put up 15 quart bags in the freezer and pressure canned 19 pints. We had 7 or those white kitchen trash bags full. the stems ends and trimmings went to the chickens who stripped every little tidbit off those stems.
Hiya Everyone!

I had this conversation last night about peeling eggs we've talked about it here before a few times what's the best and easiest way, I don't know how well this would work but just got it off FB thought I'd have to share it and try it for myself, this is what was recommended:
For anyone that may not know, the BEST way to make hard-boiled eggs is in the OVEN! Place the eggs in a muffin tray so they do not move around, turn the oven to 325 degrees, pop in for about 25-30 minutes and remove! Not only are they tastier, but they also are much easier to peel!

Gotta be worth tryin' at least once LOL the post says won't blow up and no water needed...
You try it first and tell us how it worked.

Mitzi - I like the way you have your pens set up. I'm considering borrowing some of your ideas. Your birds look happy in them, and they don't look too difficult to put up.

There have been several hatches over the past few days.

Same chicks - different shot.

Awww...so cute!

I have decided.. The Incubator gets shut off soon, one more month and I am done hatching till Sept. unless I decide to turn it back on.. but even then they will only be sale birds then.
You need a break! how many hundreds of chicks have you hatched this spring?!?!

Somemebody quick! Call an ambulance-something's wrong with Carl!
When's the last time you even shut the incubator off??

We last turned them off 3 years ago.. But I have what I need already just a few more for spring from certian matings and and waiting for the next generation. I figure a few hundred more Rosecombs, 100 more Birchen OE, 100 More columbian oe, and a few other birds here and there. Taking a break through the heat so the birds can grow better.
