***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Well after many tries I found a nest of eggs from my free range guineas. I had seen a trio of them returning under a pear tree & around my garden every day. Told dd they had to be laying there. I looked earlier this wk but couldn't find the nest. Saturday we were gone all day so the guineas stayed penned up. At noon when I let them out today one guinea hen ran as fast as she could down to the garden area. I saw where she went into the brush & after she came out I searched & was unable to find the nest. After dinner DH & I looked again & to ally found it! Took 3 tries. Those guineas are masters in egg hiding! I took the 17 eggs & put 5 bad eggs in the nest. Not sure if they will lay there tomorrow.

Cowboy think we only had 2 or 3 of your eggs not hatch. No splash-- all were black or blue & think half were NN. Of course DD has picked out her favorites already. Think she is going to keep them all. At least that is what she said earlier.

My girls have 12 days of school left! Looking forward to school being out, then chicken chores will hopefully be easier. Some days after school DD isn't too excited to take care of the birds in the evenings. But she insist they are all her favorites & we can't give any birds up. I guess the only worry I have is after the last 12 days of school how much bickering will I have to deal with between the girls.

Hope everyone made good use of the extra time Saturday night. We didn't do anything productive but had a good time as a family, so it was all good.

I think I must be related to your DD...I've been debating for a week on the birds going to POOPS.....so many are my favorites....but I can't keep them all.

Think I need to add more dirt?? All 6 of them had to be in that spot. lol

I have no clue what is going on with his/her feathers?? But just looked like that once they started growing in.

Awhile back everyone was talking about peach trees. I don't know what kind this is. But. We have peaches! Hopefully we will get to eat some of these lol. Now if only the apple trees would produce.

my fatherinlaw will take all but 3-4 off the branch when they come in like now, then the remainders are big and juicy....

Question: What are some safe fertilizers to use on a yard that chickens are allowed on? I really have backyard chickens but do want them to have access to the yard at times, always when I would be around to ride herd on them. Are there fertilizers that just need a certain time to dissipate and then are safe? If it were my decision alone I would just use bagged dried manure but my cohort thinks fertilizer comes in little pellets and is laid down with a spreader. Thanks.

No, it was fun talking. We didn't make many sales yesterday (although we did sell out of eggs pretty early), but we enjoyed socializing with everyone. Fun that I slowly put 2 and 2 together and figured out it was you we were talking to. :)

On the other issue, the next auction we will be attending will be Walters on Monday, May 7th. I think it starts at 6, but modernman can say for sure. You can come to the library at 5 and we can all take off from there. It will be fun.

Which library? It was great fun meeting you guys!

Glad you had a good hatch.

Had to post these pictures.... Our Catahoula loves baby chickens...he will lay on the floor and let them run across his feet. Even the momma hens know he won't hurt the babies and will get close to him too yet will eat my hand if I get too close. Too bad you cant see the wagging tail and the eyes darting to check out each tiny baby. These are the d'Anvers bantams that Carl hatched for me.
