***OKIES in the BYC III ***

New member to BYC and I was doing some scrounging around and found this thread. I'm so happy there are threads by state, that's cool. I'm living in Broken Arrow Oklahoma (technically in the city limits.. shhhh don't tell)

I'm a new chicken momma. I have one chicken. We may be getting a friend for her but until the coop I ordered comes in my husband says my chicken buying is on hiatus.

Luna is my red sex link hen. She is 5 weeks old. She loves watching TV. She sits on my shoulders while I pick up the house, fold laundry, pull weeds, etc. We have totally embraced this whole chicken thing. When we open the back door she comes running. And if something scares her while she is enjoying some supervised free roaming she runs straight for my legs. It's the funniest thing.

I look forward to reading posts here! This is a great site.

Great having you! Lots of great chicken folks here to learn from!

I'm planning on going to poops early but will have to leave early to get everything ready for the auction .have some nice stuff coming callduck.eyg.geese lot of turkeys .peafowl .wyandotte hens .hope everyone can make it to the auction after poops just remember we start at 5 pm.

Dang your making it tempting but not sure I want to take 5 kids to the auction, lol. But then again hubby won't be with me so I can just say "sorry hunny I got distracted by the kids and bought all these chicks without realizing it".

Warm welcome to each and every new member, sure a lot of new people overnight. Did someone run a Spring membership drive or something?

New People: This POOPS that everyone is mentioning is an annual event. I haven't been to one but methinks it shouldn't be missed without good cause. Sorta like a Rendezvous
or Pow Wow.

hey what is going on Friday night at the Poops deal?
Is there a place to camp there or is everyone just meeting
there for setup and visiting, what time will people be around on Sat. morning?
I plan on being there Sat. morning around 8-9am, Lynn

Nothing planned on Friday. I will be taking some tables and chairs and a grill over there
and start getting things lined up. I don't know if anyone ekse will be around on Friday.

There is no overnight staying in the park but the KOA is about seven miles south.

Does anyone in OK have Swedish Flower Chickens? I"m not sure why all of a sudden I'm obsessed. These chicken are eye candy for sure. I'd drive to get a few if anyone has a lead on them nearby.

Not that I know about. I was once part of a group that was trying to import them
several years ago but that whole deal fell apart. I had heard that someone had
managed to get some to the US but I don't know how prevalent they are in the US.
Probably not much and I am sure they are expensive.
Very beautiful birds.

Finally got to watch the weather report this morning. Looks like everyone will have to bring their sunscreen to POOPS this weekend! I am thinking about wearing shorts, so bring your sunglasses too. The glare coming off of my white legs might blind you!
