Good morning okies, well yesterday was every chicken lovers nightmare for me. someone had let their dogs roam free and they came over to my place about
6am and killed all my 2 month old marans and americaunas. There were 40 marans and 10 blue ams. As you can imagine im a little emotional about it. Lots of anger and some regret. You always have feel like its your fault, like you could have done more. On the up side I did hatch out 5 of my bantam blue americauna

So sorry to hear about your losses. We have a great Pyrenees now, and she keeps all stray dogs, cats, skunks, possums, etc. off the property. She is the best investment we've ever made in predator protection. Yesterday, when a big black carrion bird flew over, Vesta (our great Pyrenees) jumped up on the wheelbarrow and told it to, "Go hunt somewhere else!"

sorry for your loss, I'm heart broken over losing 8, I can't imagine losing that many at once!


Thanks everyone! I'm not sure we are going to get any more chicks this year. My plan for today is to get all fowl minus the 4 baby ducklings that DH brought home monday and the lone surviving EE out of the house. Unless someone has a week old NN I could buy? DD1 is very upset to have lost her NN. I think that bigger EE I got from Jcat is about a week old now? that way I could seperate the ducklings and the chick.

Woke up to one baby out and another popped up a few minutes later. One is working it's way out. But It's been working on it's way out since yesterday. Still wiggling and peeping. Idk I'm going to just let it be I guess,

drowned 8 of the 9 babies I got at POOPS. I had their cage pushed against the bathtub. Filled the bathtub to let the ducklings have a swim, but something happened (I think it was when my 3yo was screaming bloody murder right after a loud thud) and I left the room forgetting I left it on. flooded the bathroom and one of the bedrooms. killed 4 orps, 3 EE and the naked neck. Ellie is so sad, but taking it really well considering. I think she is taking it better than I am really

Oh no!!!! I have some EE's hatching now you are welcome to a few if you want. Not 100% sure what they will look like. We traded a friend for her cool green eggs. The mommas are all EE's but she has 3 roos so not sure who the baby daddies are, lol. But they are hatching out now as I type so I am sure we have a few to spare.

Anyone looking for blue or white ameraucanas? There is someone on Craigslist selling a trio of each. I called and he wants $75 for each trio and they are a little less than a year old. He says the whites are all white, no staining.

I forget who asked, but the temp on the quail eggs had got down to 85 before I caught it. I am ordering a new thermometer this Fri that has alarms you can set for low and high temps. Hopefully I won't have that happen again. I really do not think I could handle it. I am still a mess.

I wouldn't give up on the eggs. I have a batch in the hatcher now that got up to 110 deg. for who knows how long. They were in my LG, well one of Jack's little banty cochins hatched then last night one of my dark, dark Cuckoo eggs hatched!!! I couldn't believe anything lived through that. We have 2 others pipped but I know one of those gave up.

Looks like I will be taking Lil'Sooner to the doctor today, her throat is swollen with white dots.......not a good sign. She missed a soccer game last night & test at school yesterday.

YIKES!! Strep is going around the schools right now. I have 2 nieces down with it now. Hopefully it isn't anything serious and she is back to normal soon.
