***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Does this mean you don't want me to say anything to Stephanie when I come Monday to show her how to pack kraut?

Under No circumstances is she to know that the birds exist, are available or who has been working on them which would indicate a source.. It was a struggle to get rid of the LF and that would not be a good one for me as she does like that color pattern and LF cochins as well.

I got two poults in the incubator. Two just sitting with their beaks out since yesterday. But out of 21 eggs that's it so far. I think the humidity was way to high. Got up to 78 been trying to get it down. Took the plugs out. Waiting game I guess.

Brandy, the humidity at the end can be that high if you've done a dry incubation and kept it around 30% during the 1st 18 days. The danger of drowning them is if they haven't lost enough water weight throughout the 1st 18 days and then you have high humidity at the end.
here are my bantam favs now- at 5 weeks- i am quickly falling for them! they are incredibly friendly, now that mom gave up on them- and licorice slid right back into the flock, no problem
2 boys and 2 girls- is it normal for them to sleep alot still?
mitzi, the cochins are also 5-6 weeks now-
The Fav's picture wouldn't copy when I quoted this, Anyway, how much are they sleeping? If it's enough that you're concerned about it then it probably is too much. None of my chicks seem to ever sleep. Are they on medicated feed to prevent coccidia? Congrats-it really looks like you've got 1 Salmon boy and 1 Blue Salmon. Blue Salmon is like Blue Wheaten in boys-beautiful.

Steven, welcome!

Joe - I just moved about 40 chicks from the hatcher to the brooder. Can you post some pictures of your EO chicks? I want to identify my new babies and put tiny leg bands on them. There are three I'm pretty sure about (one blue, and two black). I've got some BCM chicks in there that look similar to the EO. I didn't separate the eggs into different hatching trays because there were so many that made it to lockdown. Next time I'm going to use dividers, at least, to make identification easier. I may need to put this hatch into two brooders in just a few days. Many of the chicks are overly large, and I don't want there to be too much competition at the feeder.

Congrats to Dustin, by the way. Good job!

Robin - I sent you a PM.

a friend of mine on facebook from poteau desperately needs a home for this girl- here is what she said
"
FREE TO GOOD HOME: and she needs a home ASAP! Someone dumped this beautiful female dog on us and she's fixed. GREAT disposition! Wonderful with my cat and other dogs and chickens/guineas/pygmies. BUT not my hubby! LOL He wants her gone ASAP! or he will get rid of her! She does NOT jump on you when you come home, she doesn't bark all night like my great pyraneese do. Please give her a home! 918-658-8189"

her husband is threatening to shoot the dog...:(

Well one of the kids didn't do too good of a job latching the door to the coop. We lost 5 chickens. And the pen I had up didn't survive my goats rubbing on it and walking over it! So today my dad and I got up and spent all day putting up a new pen for them. It's even covered on the top so I can let them out and not have to sit and watch to make sure the hawks or dogs get them. So I am happy!!

I know have 3 poult's out and one working it's way out with another one pipped!!

Happy mother's day to everyone!

Okla, the caster bean plants are looking good and the purple hyacynth are looking great.  The vining okra is struggling, but I think I will be able to baby some through.

Hey Kass,
We're you planning on saving any caster seeds? I was wondering because I lost all mine a few moves ago and would love to start over. Let me know. Thanks!

Ok, the 17 Wheaten/Blue Wheaten Ameraucana eggs have been in the incubator 3 days (she sent me lots of extras). I've got a really good flashlight my husband got me for candling and I can see distinct veining in 15 of the 17. The other 2 I *think have veins but I couldn't tell 100% yet. Can you believe the fertility on these guys versus the fertility on my shipped LF Cochin eggs?? I don't think it's the shipping at all, I think it's a fertility issue in Cochins. Because out of the 12 Cochin eggs I bought from Newcastle only 4 were even fertile (3 hatched). I"m having a good hatch rate with this Brinsea as long as the eggs are fertile and make it to lockdown. Maybe most Cochin people don't pluck the puffy butt feathers like you're supposed to do or something, I don't know.
