***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Ok fellow peeps. I am now looking for a LF Black Cochin Rooster. If u hear anything of anything let me know please. I decided to change jobs, after 61/2 yrs of working 12 hour days in a very physical job. Decided that the big $$$$ was not worth the lost time. i gues it is just another step in simplifing my life. Now I can finally focus more on my birds and land. Is that actually simplifing?

okracefan - sounds a lot like the plan I'd made. All the best to you. May your eggs always hatch and may they all be pullets!

I left a teaching job and was going to work chickens and goats for the rest of my days. Unfortunately, unexpected expenses: basement repairs, commuter car replacement, and others things that broke long before they should have, have made it necessary for me to return to work. We burned through our savings just because of one little basement flood. Who knew? We sure didn't. Sounds like you are better prepared. DH and I have decided that it's too stressful without my regular paycheck, so we're going to make an aggressive stab at paying everything off, including the mortgage on the farm. Once the basement, car, and mortgage are paid, I can have my chicken/goat dream back.

chicken sale in vinita tonight!

at the fairgrounds, should be a good sale.

supposed to be lots of stuff coming from around the are, meaning arkasas and missouri.

we have been running around 4-500 adult birds, we dont count the chicks.

lots of "merchandise", most is chicken related.

hope to see anyone from the area there, and everyone have a good sale in coweta.

money isnt all its cracked up to be, but it is nice to have sometimes!

since i went to around 20 hours a week, partialy on my own accord, partialy for health reasons, i have much less stress.

Cute video! Ghost is a really smart dog!
Rebecca Muesky had her two dogs leashed together at POOPS because one needed to be leash trained. It was the easiest leash training I ever saw.
Buster, adorable video lol!
What cracked me up about Meusky's Dachshunds at POOPS was they had their own BYC name tags

I've always leash trained puppies by letting them drag the leash around for a few hours. (Thank God I will NEVER have a puppy again).

I'm sorry about the unexpected expenses. That really stinks. :(

Something was getting an egg or 2 every night from the Guinea girl's nest so I did go ahead and take her eggs. My daughter thought it was mean to take her eggs

but at this rate there wouldn't have been any left to hatch to get eaten by hawks anyway. Plus the Guinea didn't know why she was sitting on eggs, instinct just told her to, so it's not like I ripped her family away from her and put them in a foster home like my daughter would have me believe.Sheesh. There were only 14 left and it's looking like at least 10 are growing, looks like different stages of growth though. The 'baby-daddy' is our (now) 13 yr old Guinea boy, "Speedy". Amazing he's still got it in him. My son will be 16 in Aug and he was 3 when we got Speedy. How on earth did that Guinea make it 13 yrs???? I protect and take care of my favorite chickens like they're gold and I've lost far too many of them. Yet this Guinea who's ran loose for 13 yrs can still fertilize eggs??? This is the 1st time he's ever had a girl, too.
So anyway-I don't want Guineas. I'm wondering if I should keep just 1 only to remember Speedy by though. I like the males fine, but those females are worse than a group of 12 yr old girls.
