***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Was wondering if your pickled beet recipe was like mine. Water, vinegar, sugar, salt, cinnamon sticks, cloves and allspice ? have 3 rows to get busy on, don't know what i was thinking when i planted so many.
But weeding and garden work is on for today, along with putting up about 10 gallons of apricots, so glad my mom will be here later today to help with the apricots.
been sick with the respitory crud this week, so don't know how much of my want to do and need to do list will get done.

Morning all, woke up soar this morning, hips are hurting bad, went to Dr. yesterday and he says the same as the other DR. so we wait, so goes it with Dr. and Lawyers, they work in their own time no matter how you feel, anyways, hobblein around, was going to go to Guy Rose Auction but called that off due to the pain of standing and the dang wind blowin like crazy, still have make it to town today and get feed sometime. Also, we inherited another lawnmower (weathered Pygmy cross) and got him chain broke and put to work yesterday, need to get the front road fenced off so the horses can finish mowing the front yard. Have three game hens wanting to set real bad, guess I'll give them some eggs to set, have eggs running out our ears right now, sold 8 dozen yesterday, but gathering about 4 dozen a day, I have to give praise to my beautiful wife and kids for taking care of all the animals around here lately, they have been a blessing even when I have to go out a referee the two kids some days!!! Have a wonderful day all, Lynn

Brandi, that chick does look like a White Rock! There's bantam White Rocks also if it turns out small.

Nana, don't you just love the little LF Cochin personalities?? This breed is just flat *different* than any other breed I've had although the Dark Brahmas come real close. They're just so much more eager to come running, to eat from your hand, to look up at you and turn their heads like they're in love.....sigh. I adore these guys. You're incredibly lucky to have Lavender!

Laura, are you getting piggers from Bill?

Lynn, I'm sorry you're feeling bad. It sounds like you have joint problems?
Now that I'm in my 50's I can still do all the same things I did in my 30's. The difference is how long it takes to recover.
Is the Guy Rose auction every Saturday? I think I might want to check that out.

Robin - keeping your FIL and family in my prayers for a speedy recovery.
BBacres - your birds are pretty no matter what they are.
I've always liked solid white birds. I had a very large White Plymouth Rock rooster for awhile that was absolutely gorgeous. Since he crowed VERY loudly, I had to rehome him. He, along with another rooster, went to the yard guys I had at the time, in trade for some yard work they did for me. I miss that rooster. His name was Bubba.

I haven't seen any more clumps of tissue since the one the other day. That was a really strange thing to see come out the rear end of my hen, and even stranger that it happened right in front of me. It makes me wonder what happens when I'm not looking.
I like white birds, too. This is one gorgeous rooster.

Pardon while I interrupt this thread with pretty pic's of pampered piggies on parade, Philm at 11 (perhaps)
Arnie! How can something so flipping CUTE grow up to be such a demanding pain in the behind??? lol Sorta' like teenagers, I guess. God gives them to you tiny and cuddly and cute and you get all attached to them and then they turn into teenagers and you're already hooked

Well I gotta go finish the new pen because I going to p/up a Black LF Cochin Roo from Modernman and going to put him with my 2 BBS Hens and see what happens on coloring.

I just Gotta come with a coupe design and decided if i am gonna split it in half so I can have another pen for another color.

Getting pretty excited about actually getting the time to work with my birds. Already have people at the new job wanting eggs! One lady wants all that I can spare.

Probably similiar. Mine has orange peel also Here's mine for

Pickled Beets
....I work up a bushel at a time so I multiply the recipe
3 pounds will make about 3 pints

3 pounds small whole beets (2 inch diameter) boiled and skins slipped
Boil the following for 5 minutes and then strain thru damp cloth or coffee filter
2 cups white vinegar
1 cup water 1 tsp ground allspice
1 tsp ground cinnamon
2 shakes ground clove
2 shakes ground nutmet
1/2 tsp dried orange peel
1/2 cup sugar

Prep the hot clean canning jars
To each pint jar add 3 whole cloves and 1 inch cinnamon stick
To each quart jar add 6 whole cloves and 2 inch cinnamon stick
Slice beets 1/4 - 1/3 inch thick and pack into jars.
Add boiling pickling liquid leaving 1/2 inch headspace.
Wipe jar rims and adjust lids Process in a boiling-water canner for 30 minutes. Remove jars from canner and cool on racks

Morning all, just got back from Clinton, had a tire on the pu that came apart. Priced tires for it. Seems that 16 inch tires are rare now. Cheapest ones they sale 200 per. I just need one, maybe I will find a good used one. I hate to put 200 dollar tire on cause would like to trade it for a smaller version, something that gets better than 13 miles per gallon. Like I told Molly, we dont pull horses anymore, dont need a 3/4 ton pu.
Lynn I can relate. I wake up sore, go to bed sore. Take lots of pills inbetween.
Been a crappy week. Lawn mower quit, tire blowed out. My old 80 model ford that I use here on the place to haul stuff from point a to point b hasnt been started in so long battery dead and couldnt jump it last night. Wind blowed so har yesterday broke5 tomatoes off. I had to buy some stakes and spent 2 hours staking mators. Surly it will get better.

Morning all, looks like Steph has been having a ball chatting up with everyone. I am glad she has been having a good time she really deserves the break from everything else going on.

In the event anyone is interested I have 3 Pair of top notch Black Rosecomb bantams that will be ready for the upcoming show season. From top show stock and very well developed for thier age with good heads and combs. I also have a few Blues I could spare just not too many.

and anyone that would be interested in some extra OE cockrells I have some of them too, as well as an abundance of Columbian primarily pullets. I will be out working on the yard 13 days straight of 12+ hour days at work I'm starting to see that I was slacking around here.

The whole idea of turning the incubator off probably isn't going to work out too well, I have another hatch coming off today and tomorrow they have already started and just put a few hundred more in to start incubating a few days ago. I may just cut back and only hatch from certian pens, we will see how that works out.

Guy, it sounds like it may only be able to get better, our mower quit on me the day I spent countless hours re-building the deck, replaced the carb, replaced the belts, changed oil plugs and filters, let it run for about 4-5 hours to make sure all was going to be good since we didn't use it much last year then I made three passes around the yard and it threw a rod.

Ksane, yes the Guy Rose Auction is on hiway 177 south of Stillwater and North of Perkins, it is every Sat. has poultry and rabbits and such on one side and junk and collectibles on the other, they have two auctioneers going at once, it usually gets started by 10 am, lately there have been lots of eggs, chickens, roosters and such, some cages sell, if you are selling birds, if you get there early enough you can use their cages or your own. They stop everything at 12 noon and sell hay, round and square bales usually, then go back to usually just junk and such, poultry is usually over by noon. Lynn
