***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Guinea eggs hatch much faster than chicken eggs in ideal conditions. In my brinsea they hatch so fast many times I never know they pipped. My sportsman does t do as well, but they are still faster than chickens & USUALLY they all hatch at once. But with pullet size eggs things have been off. I really want a brinsea cabinet, but that price tag keeps me away! Maybe next season we may sell the others & then get the brinsea cabinet, it wouldn't feel like it cost as much then!

Morning all, looks to be a beautiful day out there. Had 3 keets running around in the hatcher this morning with one more not to far from hatch and a few more I pray will make it. How long do guinea hatches last? Of course I guess some of these could be days behind the others since the wild guinea girl was sitting on them in her nest right? How long do I leave the ones in there that are up and running (and I do mean RUNNING, those buggers are fast!). They are rolling the eggs around that are still pipping, lol. They are in my LG so I could get in there and get them pretty fast if I need to take them out and put them in a brooder.

I candled the eggs that go in the hatcher on Friday last night. Took out two clear ones but the rest of the tray had lots of little chicks. While I don't "need"" more chicks I can't wait to see what our hatch rate is this time. The last one wasn't great since most of the Golden Salmons didn't hatch for some reason and one of the ones that did hatch we had to cull it never could walk. If I didn't count those it was a great hatch so hopefully it was just a fluke. Also got some garden work done, I couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting any peas even though I had tons come up. It is bugs!!! Lots of tiny little green bugs all over the stems. So I will pull all of them up this weekend and feed them to the chickens. Hopefully the tomatos and peppers fair better. I need hubby to mix up some spray for those. Dad always used tobacco juice, ceyanne pepper juice, garlic and a tiny bit of dawn dish soap(to make it stick to the plants better) to spray the plants down to help with bugs. We used it last year but with the heat we didn't get much from the garden.

Anyone need any male chicks? I have 3 sexlink male chicks free to anyone that wants them. We had planned on raising them up for meat but I don't have time right now for any extras with fireworks season coming up quickly. Plus my mother is having surger on the 31st so I will be in and out at home so much that any thing I can do to make just that much less work for dh and the kids between now and June 15th the better.
so where these you candled the ones with my mystery babies? Its exciting that they all have lil growing babies!

What kind of brinsea do you have? Iv been looking at the mini eco. My daughter wants to start playing with hatching.

I wish these were hatching in my redwood hatcher but it still had eggs in it from my last hatch when the guineas started pipping. Hopefully they will all finish hatching while I am at work today. I wasted 15 mins this morning before coming to work talking to the 3 that were hatched and talking to the ones that were working on it. If I had sat all these to incubate at the same time I would expect them to all hatch at the same time but not sure if the one guinea was laying them all herself or if the other girl guinea that is running loose was helping her. Our last guinea hatch will be June 1 so I guess I will find out for sure then, lol. Those I incubated all in the redwood and I can't wait to see how that hatch goes.

Guess we will just continue to keep the humidity up in the LG for the next day or two and see how many hatch. But hey I trippled my last guinea hatch with 3 this time so far

We have the brinsea Eco with turner. It is effortless & many times I have had a 100% hatch. Never get a 100% hatch in the gqf cabinets. Usually in the cabinets we get around 80% if the eggs are viable. Only bad thing about the Eco is the size. If DD was limited to only using the Eco things sure would be a LOT different around here-- Our place would seem empty!

Well I did candle a few from yours and I did see some faint veining so you have some growing. I didn't candle all of those since they aren't to day 10 yet but I was curious! LOL But some showed as much growth as some of mine that I set the very same time so I think you will get some chicks from your hen yet. I will candle them all on day ten which will be Sunday. I may wait until Monday since I am off that day as well just depends on if I have down time and get curious before Monday, lol.

The way that incubator is designed you can just turn or roll the whole incubator several times a day. I have never used it without the turner, but I know many do. The turner allows the eggs to all get a full turn every hour, it turns so slow you never see it move but it is turning all day. I say buy the incubator (search for a coupon code to use) then you can get the turner later if your hatches are not high. However, I have paid $200-$275 for the 2 gqf cabinets we have & the gqf hatcher. The Eco with turner was $200 when i bought mine a few yrs ago so it could be better to find a used sportsman. Even with all the incubators we have running we still come close to running out of room. When we lived in town the Eco was great, as soon as we moved to the farm we had to up grade!

Nah, you would just have ALOT of the Brinsea Eco incubators!!! Your daughter is a hatch a holic but then again I can see how easily that happens. It is killing me to put perfectly good hatching eggs in the fridge to cook with, lol.
