***OKIES in the BYC III ***

They are adorable. I am farming out eggs all over the place. Seriously. I have two broodies on eggs, I have eggs in an incubator in Dallas. I'm trying like crazy to build up this year because the last two years have been disappointing as anything. For once I want to end up with more birds than I started with.
it seems to be a resounding theme that they havent been hatching well this year...

I took some pictures of Samson and Delilah's babies And the Blues from Bo Garrett....

Samson and Delilah came from Carl. He is the Lavendar roo and she is the blue hen These hatched 4/18

This is Chick 1 and I think it will be a roo. It has one black feather on its wing.

Chick 2 is smaller and has a very light lavendar hue all over and a few darker feathers...may be a splash pullet

And chick 3 is darker and while there are feathers on the middle toe, they aren't quite as full as the siblings..

And then these are the babies from Bo Garrett's Blue Cochins. Bo, you'll have to tell me what you think. They hatched 4/30

Not sure the variety on this one....black with white feathers.... 2 pictures. Could this one be mottled blue?

Then Red counting noses on the Garrett Cochins and a few older chicks. Some of these are going to be almost navy blue...

Rebecca...there will definitely be some roos in this bunch....remember, I promised you one.

Oh my look at all the babies!!! Nana cochins are really growing on me! My boys started with the bantam cochins so guess we will stick with those but if we ever end up with an open pen I might have to get a few, just don't tell my hubby I said that.

I had to post this picture of Delilah. She is brooding chicks and noticed the cochin babies in the cage (before I oput them on the floor) Her baby Curious George is on the shelf and Spastic is trying to fly.

Afternoon, All,

It's been a noisy, noisy day here. Our yard is a series of pits and trenches. The plumbing crew has been breaking rock with a jack hammer for two days. I'm about ready to move to town to get away from the noise! Not really. My quiet country farm house will reappear when the dust settles. I hope it will be soon.

For folks wanting T-Shirts for N.E.O.C.S., please visit this link. http://kwiksurveys.com?u=NEOCSTShirtPreOrder

You'll see descriptions and prices and can let me know via the link how many and what sizes you'd like. I need to order soon. The local T-Shirt place wants all orders in before June 10th so they will have a week to get shirts printed. You've got two T-Shirt colors to choose from and you can pick the design "with" peace signs or the design that has "no" peace signs. I've got a list of T-Shirts ordered, a list of who is bringing what, and a list of things people want to find at the bottom of the first page of the planning thread. He sure didn't get along with any other chickens here. They kept being mean to him. He has allot of personality. If he was out of food he would pace back and forth in his cage until he got some. One time I decoded to clean his water first. He looked at me and started tapping on his food bowl!

He is definitely a character. He and his buddy run free range here for the most part. I lock them up at night, but during the day they go wherever they want, although they pretty much stay in the breezeway of the barn. And, Sam never eats until he's sure his friend has found the food. It's cute watching them. He talks to her all the time and never leaves her side. The other chickens don't even exist as far as he's concerned. I have a silky roo I let out sometimes during the day, too, and that bugger wants to fight everything walking, but he's never bothered Sam. I don't question these things; I just smile and go on.....

If your like me you won't mind turning the eggs a few times each day. I like being hands on with our hatching. Now that may change after I have my big redwood full come fall but I have had 5 of the 6 trays going this spring and don't mind going in there and turning eggs at all.

When I was running a hovabator and a little giant a the same time, I started out hand turning all the eggs and I didn't mind a bit. It's just a question of your schedule and memory-- can't forget to turn them. But, now that I have a big cabinet incubator, I'm sure enjoying the worry-free experience of only having to monitor the temp and humidity every day.
