Joe, do tell the secret for the hoses, pretty please???? And please don't let my 10 year old see those birds, he keeps seeing OEGBs he likes and thinks he needs those too, lol.

Mitzi, our hoop houses take 3 of us to move but I love that I can move them to fresh green spots in the yard every week. Ours are in the shade too, I have a covered dog kennel but it is in full sun and the birds are just to hot in there. That is the birds that got moved to the new hoop house. We will be moving the dog kennel (takes 5 or 6 of us to move it) to a shaded spot before we put anymore birds in there. The hoop houses end up being about 8' x 10' so could house 6-8 LF birds easily. Right now in our first one I have 8 young roos in it and all is peacefull for now, lol. I figure in another month or so we will have to figure out something different for them but in the meantime they are enjoying the fresh grass and shade.
it is no secret i simply took an old garden hoses and punched small holes in it where i needed them i have a ball valve on the hoses and ajust the presior as high or as low as i need i find this works great and keeps the pens 15 deg or more cooler

I have two garden spots for the chickens, it is full of planted boss and kale, greens, radish ect. for them to eat when it gets hot and has several things planted in trellis for us to eat but that should provide some shade for them, anyway when I planted it out I put all the kale seeds in there for the chickens. Knowing all the articles about how good they are for people to eat and how tastey they say the kale is I was second guessing myself. Anyway I waded through the thick plants to make sure the people food was well watered and look for squash bugs ect.... I sampled each type of kale I found in there and I have to say I am glad I put it in there, that might be healthy, but it is pretty fowl tasting stuff!!!!!
I cook my kale with bacon and onions kinda like collards. some days i put carrots in. The cold weather makes it taste sweeter. my kids prefer this to the collards now.

At least it was fast and she didn't suffer.

Aw. She's gorgeous and I'm so sorry for your loss.

Hey, Jcatblum, what color are these gorgeous ones up front, the really light ones?

Also, would you be willing to post a picture of the buff cochin baby that hatched out? I'd like to show my husband.

Traci I am on my phone right now, but it looks like that is a coral blue keet. Does it have kinda squiggly lines on its head?
I will get some pics of the Cochins tomorrow hopefully. Day is having oral surgery so might throw my day off. There are 4 from the eggs I got @ poops & one from the eggs you brought me. Think I have 2 more eggs still in the hatcher so we will see what happens.
We also had 4 more turkeys hatch out today. They were late by a day. Think that made 23 out of the 29 turkey eggs that made it to lockdown. 2 others are pipped but don't look promising.
Hope everyone had a great long weekend. Rain should be coming towards a few of y'all. We had a brief shower earlier & looks like more is coming.
