***OKIES in the BYC III ***

And what do you keep him/her in at night I really dont want to build another coop. He is growing so fast, an stays out all day everyday. I have been keeping him in the live trap at night, with a tarp over it. He seems to want to sleep on top of the chicken coop. What to do

The only thing I can think of is some kind of Turkey house in a tree. . . .lol

Sorry for all of the losses of birds. Sometimes no matter what is done predators can get through the lines.

Wayne you have a safe trip both ways.

My day went by way too fast today. It was Teva's first day off since she started and I took off of work to spend the day with her. She loves the job and it really shows in her attitude, worked 10 days straight and nary a complaint out of her except that she was tired. They are sending her on runs mostly at night and they have all been 6-8 hour runs but she may do what is called assisting which is hauling crews that are spotting trains and working the yard.

This is the happiest that I have seen her with a job in about 10 years. I had always felt that driving was in her blood but I could never get her behind the wheel of a semi when I was driving but she sure enjoyed going with me.

This morning she took a crew from the yard and back to the motel and they told her that they liked her because she was always early and they never have had to wait on her. When she told me about that she was beaming with pride, I think that she has found her niche in life.

I Have one turkey hen that I can't keep in a pen, she just roosts in a tree at night which so far has been safe from the Coyotes that come through here.

If that is a tom don't be suprised if'n next spring he wanders off in search of a mate, that is the best reason to keep them penned.

Doodle sorry you lost all those precious chicks!

Forgot to update my swolen eye pullet still looks awful! We have doctored her, but no changes.

Here are some pics of the chicks from Bfrancis eggs, they were in a temp box while their brooder was being cleaned.

and my new Silver Appleyards!! The black runners were packing peanuts. 12 ducks went through 2 quarts of water today. They drink nonstop!

Nana our little farmett is in Adair county., between the community's of Chance and Chewy! On Chewy road. I doubt that will help you much because I don't think any of those names are on maps! Lol
Terrible morning here,a varmint or varmints got into my. Chickens last night, lost about fifteen to twenty half grown birds and one hen. Four were silkies including my one calico! The rest were my Icelandics ...... I never had a loss from varmints till I lost our final dog recently so when I get back home from the trip I am getting another outside dog!
Well my truck and trailer are loaded up and I hope to leave out early in the morning. Not looking forward to the long trip. Been a few years since I have made that one by my self. See you all sat!

So sorry to hear about your chick losses! Have a really safe journey and be careful working on the farm...it's gonna be hot.

Sounds like Teva has a great job! And a great hubby for taking off the day to spend it with your sweet wife!

Hello again, I have been here reading posts since I joined. . . . . .I just needed some time before I shared. Last week while proudly sharing my pictures and telling you all about my bestest girl-friend, my son an my god daughter were outside building a temp. run for the chicks. I had tended to all my birds, an let them out to run the yard, worked in the garden for awhile then came inside. Someone let out our two female pups, which constantly need supervision (only 11 weeks old). They got ahold of my girl. The kids did not notice, they were hammering posts in the ground. By the time they noticed the pups were out, she was already gone. My Helen never had a chance. . . . I have lost others, but this is so different. She was so sweet, she wanted to be with us! That is all she ever wanted, this is so hard. I feel like a boob. I am just glad I shared her with the group.
I am so very sorry for your loss.

There is a good article off of yahoo links about the big cats that were discussed not long ago in this forum, 12 sightings in Oklahoma from their study ! Makes me want to get in my car realy fast on those dark mornings, lol.
