Ok folks I need your expertise! I have a girl I got from McMurrays in April and still have not figured out what she is. I don't have the greatest pics and will get more later but here is what I have

Her as a chick

Here she is now.

I will try to go into the run after a bit and get better pics of her. She hates having her picture taken lol

Dark cornish

Changing the subject: Can anyone tell me if my turkey is male or female??? Hint to what I think it's name is Evan, but at times I say she needs to stop growing. . .Needing some clarity.

How old? I can't really tell without another bird or something there for comparison, but she looks a little young to tell yet. Mine didn't get obvious till just a few weeks ago and we got them in February. If she's as old or older than mine I vote female.

Yep, looks just like my cornish. I'll try to get a pic later for comparison

"HE" was a birthday gift from my brother!!! He picked him up from Atwoods late April. The turkey was so tiny an mostly fuzz, this is what they looked like when I got them. I lost the dark one, the door in its coop at the time flipped down on his neck. . . .

"He" has grown into a MONSTER compared to my bantams.

lol yeah, I knew bantams were small, but if I had realized how small I probably wouldn't have gotten any. I'm a big breed lady

We got ours mid feb, so if yours is about two months behind mine. I'd say wait one more month. I figured I had two toms from their behavior when they were little, but seeing as there is only one I don't know if he'd have any reason to strut

It was late may when they really started looking different.

Wayne, I'm so very sorry about your birds :-( I know how much you liked them and how proud you were about them. I feel so bad for you. I can't wait to meet you Saturday.

And Hannah, I know how easily these birds can go from chickens to 'pet'. Losing some of the special ones sucks. Don't beat yourself up. I've got lots of dogs and I don't fool myself for a second about what they'd do if they ever got through the fences into where the birds are at.
You said you got the turkey in April? So if it's only a few months old I'd say male. That's about how mature females look but not at 2 months.

Les, I'm really happy about your wife liking her job so well. A job you enjoy makes all the difference in the world. I've had jobs I really liked but unfortunately some of the bosses that came with the jobs made the jobs miserable.

GunMama, definitely a Dark Cornish you have. They come in Bantam and standard size and the standard is pretty hefty. I've got 4 Bantam Cornish that are just flat comical, I really enjoy them.

and my new Silver Appleyards!! The black runners were packing peanuts. 12 ducks went through 2 quarts of water today. They drink nonstop!

Are all those chicks from BFrancis's eggs? How'd you get blacks in there? They're awesome, cute, adorable and I want some lol! I'm getting some eggs from him next month and can't wait!
The ducks are hilarious! OMG how cute lol

I had the 13 Bantam Ameraucana eggs in lockdown, today is officially hatch day but 3 Brown Reds and 2 whites hatched yesterday, then nothing. No pips no squeaks, nothing. The 5 that hatched were all perfectly ready and didn't have any problems at all but I'm a little concerned about why the other 8 are just sitting there. You'd think there'd be pips or movement. These were shipped eggs but all 13 in lockdown have been developing fine all along. Christina, how many batches of shipped eggs have you tried? How did it go? I can't imagine why 5 would hatch so perfectly and be so big and healthy and then....nothing. Of course I'll give them a few days but I'm not one to get my hopes up. The 5 I got are adorable!!! And I put my hand in their tub and they trip over their feet running to me lol Little tiny miniature bearded chicks are so cool.
I'm buying the Little Giant back and doing a test hatch with some of my own eggs and seeing what kind of luck I have. I've never completed a hatch from my eggs so maybe that'll make a difference.
