***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I'm back in for a second cup of coffee. I read all the posts from yesterday and smiled over all the photos. Wayne - I had a nice cry over the quilt. My husband (an engineer) said it was a lovely gift but couldn't understand my falling apart over it. You're an artist. Thank you.

I had a wonderful time yesterday and I want to say a big thank you to everyone who made the drive to Muskogee. I know a lot of things didn't happen as planned: our sound guy quit Friday night, the T-Shirt order wasn't ready Friday at the promised pickup time, and I dropped the box with the ceramic piggy dolls when loading it into the truck, so their little ceramic heads are no more.

The good news is a volunteer with a portable sound system drove home and came back with a microphone and speaker, so the sale was audible by all. Mefords, sorry we didn't have sound for you earlier. Our volunteer was an Okie angel for sure.

For anyone who ordered shirts, I'm going to have a heart-to-heart talk with the manager on Monday. I'll contact all who ordered with the results of that meeting.

The raffle donations were beyond my expectations. Thank you, everyone, who donated to the raffle. The raffle made the event possible. I was able to pay the two police officers who did our security detail and pay for the rental of the barn from the raffle proceeds and about half of what the concession table brought in. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Again, it's Okies that made this day of chicken fun possible.

I found my camera this morning. My husband, who had been concerned about the safety of the camera, placed it at the bottom of the bag that held the napkins for the concession stand. Only half the napkins were used, so I wasn't able to find the camera yesterday. Thanks to all who took pictures and posted them. I love it when I can put names and faces together.

All the new babies are in grow-out cages. All the new adults are in quarantine cages. All the eggs are resting to be set Monday morning. Cowboy . . . in all the excitement I missed checking with you about the big-hair NN pullets. I saw photos of Kass' and am kicking myself for not remembering to talk to you.

Coffee break is over. Time to finish tending birds and goats. Oh, almost forgot. Thanks to everyone who picked up trash and swept out spaces. I walked the barn before I left and only had to pick up a few things here and there. I'm sure the fairgrounds manager will be impressed with how well the barn looks after such a big gathering.
For next time: We'll pick a month that isn't so hot, and I'll have the sound equipment in my possession two days before the event.

Cowboy I've had lots of people on FB and BYC comment about the pics of my new girls I got from you. I can't remember what you said you crossed them w/ for the cool hair doo, could you tell me again please so I can pass it on? thanks.

Had a great time at NEOCS meeting new folks and visiting and catching up with the folks I already knew. Looking forward to the next one!

Really need to toss out a public, "Thanks!" to Sixshooter and his DW, they helped me load my truck and clean up before they left...always a great time getting around those two!

Old Cowboy and banjojoe was awesome as auctioneers...sixshooter and others were bringing the birds through, seemed liked they had been working together for years...

Didn't get to make it around much...pretty busy in my little "store", wished I could have seen everyone else's wares. Did get to bring home some awesome honey though! Thanks lonnyandrinda!

Do hens need it dark to lay? i just got two new hens and my mom seems to think they need the light off.. haha i just think its cause their a little thrown off from the stress of a new environment...
It's actually the opposite. They need light to lay. If they don't get enough light they think it's winter and lay less.

What brand and colors of dye did you use? I love that color, it's like perriwinkle or something from the crayon box. If you'll let me know how you came up with that shade I'll dye some tank tops this week, it's awesome!
