***OKIES in the BYC III ***

I'm sure it was nothing you said.

I remember the original Okies thread. I also remember the second okies thread. And now that I have returned, and have more time for here, I see that we are on our third thread. It seems that they keep getting shut down due to flaming, fighting, trolling and spam (as stated on page 1). I say let us all get along and if we can't...ignore those that you can't get along with and let us all enjoy the fellowship of those we like in the same geographical area. :) Let us all just get along.

Hey guys! I have a seriously broody black australorp hen that is refusing to give up sitting on unfertilized eggs. I have taken eggs away from her everyday for two weeks now. She has ripped out all of her belly feathers and, in my opinion, has her mind set on brooding. I have never had a broody hen before but she is refusing to even roost at night so I know she is serious. I do not have a rooster so my question is should I get her some fertilized eggs to sit? Everyone seems to leave her alone and even push eggs under her so...

Does anyone have any black australorp, rir, or silver lace wyandotte eggs they are willing to sell me?

Thanks!

Ivy
A broodie Australorp is a determined hen...My Nasty Nesty Nellie has a reputation for taking off your hand if you come near her nest or chicks. NNN is known by a few folks and will accept chicks to raise. She is a great mama.

Hope you find some eggs for her. My Aussies are with a Cochin roo and will not be pure Aussie but you are welcome to some eggs. I'm in Meeker.

Cowboy The house smelled like kraut this morning and early afternoon. Hubby said "are you sure this hasn't gone bad? " but my Mother-in-law was eatting it while she packed it and so was my brother-in-law saying "Oh this is sooo good". We do this every two years...pack the crocks and let it sit to ferment for 4 - 6 weeks. Just happened it was ready in 4 this time. I don't like the taste of the stuff in the tin cans...homemade is so much better.

I affectionately have always called her momma lol....but boy howdy she is crazy determined. I just went out to feed again and she had amassed another 13 eggs...If she could have fit the other 4 that were in the other nest box I am sure she would have tried lol. She is a sweet baby I can pull the eggs out from under her she doesn't peck but she does puff up and growl a little bit til I pet her then she coos at me...but she has always been my baby. I have to actually pick her up off the nest and carry her to food and water twice a day because otherwise I take the eggs and she continues to sit there lol poor girl has it bad. I figured she would have given up by now lol

By the way, as most of you know, I am afraid of the circular saw so I went and bought a jigsaw. It is not a perfect cutting tool but is much easier than the handsaw. Seems to be working pretty good so far.
We are in Bethel just 3 miles east of Harrah Newalla on 149th, if you need some cut I have a mitter saw that either can run or my son can if he is here. Don't hesitate to say something if you need a bit of help.

Thanks sir for the fine comments. It was a 5 hour drive over there, Motel stay, hot standing in the middle of that barn for however many hours the auction went, then 5 hour drive back. It does my heart good to see ONE person that thought we did good. Anyhow, it was good visiting with you and meeting sixshooter. Met some other good folk there also. Lots of Gamefowl folks over that part of the world, was good to talk to several of them.
You were amazing. I appreciate that you stepped in when our original sale coordinator wasn't able to make it. For those who didn't already know this: old*cowboy was a volunteer. He deserves a round of applause

smilie overdose. Sorry.

I know you sacrificed time and effort and comfort to be there, and my no-show sound guy made life miserable for a lot of people. Our okie angel, the nice lady who went home and got her sound equipment, should be thanked as well. As soon as people could hear, the sale went well. I've got a few ideas about how to bring in more buyers next time. We had more sellers than buyers, and that drives prices down.

I was overwhelmed for most of the day and completely forgot to come see you about the top hat NN pullets. I saw the pictures Kass posted and was instantly reminded that I'd asked for a couple. If you have some the next time we're in close proximity, we'll do some NN buying and selling : )

You are appreciated! Thank you for working though the heat, initial lack of sound equipment, and for making the long, long, long drive.

Ivy, I work at I240 and Western tomorrow from 8-5 and can take some eggs and you can swing by and pick them up. Problem is there are some BA, and then some that will be BA/Buff Orpington cross since I am not breeding right now I have the BA roo in with my laying hens. I would be happy to help home the ones that aren't full BA's if need be. I hate to see a broody go without eggs, lol. My Cukoo Marans hen is broody x's 2 and I broke down and gave her some banty cochin eggs, lol.
