We are looking at Buff Brahmas or some kind of Cochins. At this time he is in he Newcastle, OK area, not too far from my place or the auction houses.Murry McMurry, has a special right now for straight run Hatchery mix large fowl for $.99/each minimum 25 chicks!!!! I will suggest that he build as big as he can aford with as much shade as possible for summer and ventilation in the house as much as possible along with a good windbreak or solid shelter for winter in Oklahoma, where is your friend located?? He can get some deal right now at auction and at the hatcheries, Ideal has some great deals on their June/ July hatches right now too!!! What kind of chickens is your friend wanting?? Lynn
I assume you are talking large fowl.. allow no less than 2 ft or roost space per bird, and at least 5 sq. ft of pen space per bid. You can adjust a bit up or down based on size, breed, and purpose.I have a friend who is wanting to jump into chickens big time. I mean he is thinking about ordering 100 chicks from Murry McMurry to start with. I have already given him some chicks and now he wants more. What kind of advice can I give him such a pen size, broder, etc.
i have done business with Murry McMurry and Ideal, but i think Ideal Poultry has some of the best prices around.Murry McMurry, has a special right now for straight run Hatchery mix large fowl for $.99/each minimum 25 chicks!!!! MacG for the guineas are they crowded? If they don't have enough space they can hurt each other. They don't congregate by color but by flock. When they have been raised with there group they will run back to their group. With older ones if I let 2 groups run together they still will stick with the flock they belong to. Does that make sense?
They also beat theirselves up if they continuously charge at the fence. They think if they run full force into their closure enough the walls will come tumbling down. They don't seem to notice it hurts each time they hit the fence.
