***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Anyone else's egg production drop like a rock??? I'm not begrudging the poor girls during this horrible heat I wouldn't want to lay an egg either.
Egg production always slows in the heat, and summer then during molts as well, a person interested in egg production should really focus on the northern breeds that lay through the winter and shorter light hours.

I know some of my gardening friends on here have Mint of different kinds, I have a recipe to share where you can use some, and also another recipe, they are both great for this HOT weather, Lynn

Sekanjabin (Persian Mint Drink)

4 cups sugar
2 1/2 cups water
1 cup vinegar (Red Wine works best)
Lots of fresh mint or Lemon Balm (dried will do)(about a hand full of fresh)
Bring the water and sugar to a boil. Add the vinegar and reduce the heat to simmer for 20 minutes or so. Remove from heat and insert sprigs of mint into the pan.
To serve, cut with water to taste (a little grated cucumber can be added.)
This drink is very refreshing on a hot day, or can be taken Hot also, add 1 tsp (or to taste) to a glass of water. You can add Cinnamon (about 2 Tbl spoons) when you add the Mint also for an added flavor!!! This syrup can be made and kept in a sealed jar for several months with out refrigeration!!!

Can u see it now???

Cowboy I can't imagine volunteering to go back! Think I would have been pretty grumpy after the whole ordeal.

We spent all day running errands- I think errands are more exhausting than farm work. I am exhausted. So far we are fairing OK in the heat --- did loose 1 pullet. She had been sitting in a bowl of water all day yesterday, you could tell she was taking it worse than the rest of the birds. Was a BCM. Also lost the barn fridge. It was getting to 60-65 so I unplugged it & we are making everything fit in the house fridge. The poor old fridge couldn't keep up when it was 110 outside--- the barn electric bill was over $100 last month so imagine the fridge had been running pretty hard then too.

Well the 10x20 pen is DONE!!! Kurt and I got out there after work and got busy and finished it. My older cukoo marans chicks are now in the big pen. I hated to move them at dusk but I wanted them moved asap. My little pullet that got to hot yesterday still isn't a 100% so I am going to give her a 5 day treatment of Denegard and put some save a chick sprinkled on her starter crumbles.

My little Jack is sick running a fever and a headache. So will be making a trip to Edmond to see the pedi. my sister has Rocky Mountain Tick Fever so I want to have him checked just to make sure it is just a virus.

Hope everyone had a great day, I am going to try to catch up on reading the board before I turn in.
