***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Had to take some pics for a friend in another state so thought I would share here as well,

Those are some great looking birds. I think that it's good that the breeders are getting away from that extreme wing-drop of days past. I've seen birds that had their wingtips dragging the floor, that just didn't have much eye appeal to me.

As I was coming home from Enid this evening I saw a Coopers Hawk go after a little taco dog right in the middle of town. Went all the way up on the front porch after it. The dog ducked through the doggie door to the safety of the inside but if that door wasn't there it would have been a different outcome.

i have a jar in the fridge with first eggs..... and you know, its still exciting! when our first hen laid her egg i was so excited i took it over to the mother in laws and she was holding it and commented it was still warm! we were boith like kids at Christmas!
When I found my first eggs- my first pullets both layed for the first time on the same day, I was so excited I ran over to Jack's house to show him.

It has been quite the task with comparison judging rather than judging by points and everyone just wanting to buy what wins rather than what is right it got way out of hand and far from the standard. These have been alot of work to get to this point. many who got started in the recent years do not realize the way the bird should look, which continues the problem.
here is a side by side comparison of another breeders bird of the same variety but different line.

In the event anyone is interested I have several Black Rosecomb Pullets, two young pairs of Black Rosecomb, and a good number of Blue Rosecombs available. Nothing wrong with them just have more than I need and would do someone good for the upcoming show season.

Handsome fellow!

I hope this is an okay place to ask this. I'm in Piedmont (NW side of OKC). I have been slowly getting my coop and run ready for a few birds and hopefully within the next couple of weeks it will all be ready for them to move in. Now I'm trying to decide what to get and where to get them. My coop is 4 X 8 and raised off the ground and leads to a 20 X 30 foot run that will be covered with aviary netting. I would like to get 4-6 birds mainly for eggs. Not too interested in meat birds right now.

I have considered buff orpingtons and a couple of easter eggers. I've also had a family member ask if we can get "black and white speckled ones". I'm trying to get my own two kids (6 and 9) and my nephews (7 and 10) interested in the whole process so if I can get some birds they will enjoy that will help.

Does anyone know where in the metro area I can get birds when I'm ready? I have talked to a couple of people who were wanting to get rid of extra birds but it seems as though they are mainly wanting me to buy their old birds that aren't producing anymore or roosters. My wife is VERY opposed to the whole idea so I'm going to avoid roosters for now.

Anyway, any advice or suggestions would be very appreciated.
