***OKIES in the BYC III ***

yes i learned that with my first roo, let them be, the roos are not pets- just never know though what goes on in those little minds- i got galahad from coral, he was grown and has never been a problem, same with my little cochin roo- so i never made a pet out of them- that is the danger- but you have handled him properly, so you aren't to blame on it- poor oreo is a confused boy

Thanks nnbreeder, jen hens and lonnyandrinda. I have no idea of that store. It says open at 9 so I will wait a little bit to call. In any case one of the adds in craiglist that reply seems to have baby chicks. I candled again the only two eggs that my hen has and I am getting optimist of one. Took a pick this morning but nothing yet.
Hands down, people of Oklahoma are friendly!

Quote: When was your lst tetanus? The last roo that attacked me, punctured my leg...looked like a 22 bullet hole. Doctor put measured shots of penicillin around the perimeter of the hole. The roo made good dumplings.

I feel your pain, Kass. Ask OkRaceFan why he's getting this beautiful Cochin I've wanted for so long and looked so hard for

My birds' primary role is pet and egg-layers, I don't want to deal with aggression in any form either. If I were a breeder and had a specific reason for keeping an ornery bird I might, but that's not the case.
Put any kind of triple antibiotic on it, works like a charm.
A breeder would not use an aggressive bird for breeding, especially if it was for show. An aggressive bird in a show cage that attacks the judge would be low scored if not disqualified.

Agreed Kass. When a rooster goes rogue, doesn' mean you did anything wrong. Your birds have chicken heaven!

Update on MIL: Her potassium level has dropped to 6 which is acceptable. Tthis is down from 8.4 which was critiaclly life threatening. Will be in ICU for several days as they monitor her other vitals andwas truly worn out. Thank you for your continued prayers.

The three babies have three more pipped. So I moved the oldest to a brooder box and replaced the hot wash cloth in the incubator.

Meeting one of our daughters for dinner tonight.

Thanks I found a couple of lengths of wood that will do the job. The curtains I made are lined and very heavy and will need quite a bit of support. I know all the decorating gurus say light thin whispy curtains, but they don't have the Okie west sun beating into their bedroom.

Pfffft. I got no use for wispy curtains. I have thick denim curtains hung in the boys room because otherwise they won't go to sleep till the sun's down and that's waaaay too late for a four year old.

there are alot of theories on taming a roo, basically carrying him around like a football while doing chores, pinning him to the ground etc in front of his girls- haven't had luck with those methods- gave up on my first roo- went to freezer camp, second roo i swapped with coral, and the roo i got from her is incredibly sweet- maybe you could talk to her and see if she has a docile roo you could swap her with?

I carry mine around on their back like a baby and pin 'em to the ground. It's worked on three different roos I've ended up with that have been aggressive.

Kass - Your babies are in lockdown. I'll let you know numbers when I have them. Sorry to hear Oreo is being headstrong. I have had some success with a bucket of water in curbing dominance behaviors. With the heat, he's be dry in no time, and he may respect a flood more than a boot. I've had some roosters who had to be eaten or rehomed because they wouldn't stand down. Best of luck. I hope you're able to convince him that you are in charge.

Bill - Sorry we weren't able to visit. Some other time : ) The rain in Tulsa made the sale on Admiral almost nonexistent. When I left, the gate keeper promised things would be better on Sunday. He's right. They will. But I'm not going to be at the sale on Sunday. Too many things to do. I sent you a PM.

Goats are faring well in the heat. Galen gave me a half gallon in one milking. I think she's finding her stride. Her sisters are catching up. We're making goat-milk ice cream for dessert tonight!

Well i went to the Guy Rose Auction south of Stillwater this morning, it was a good sale, I sold 5 young roosters, you guessed it they brought 50 cents each except one that brought $1.50, and then I bought a really nice looking Blue Pyle Toppy rooster, which my wife was not as proud of as I am, and I bought two coke flats of tomatoes for $2 each, can't wait to have a tomato and mayo sandwich for supper!!! My wife took Dakota to Lawton to stay with grandma for a week and bring Heather home on Sunday so she made arrangements for some friends to come help me with chores, it took me an hour and a half to water at noon by myself and it took the four guys that came to help do chores at four about 30 minutes to do all my chores!!! Man am I greatful for the help, sent them home with eggs and some ribs from the hog we butchered a couple weeks ago!!! Now I gotta go walk my BILs Pitbull we are babysitting this week!!! Yall have a great day and keep prayin for rain!!! Lynn

Potassium is a bugger too, really bad either way to high or to low, hope they find out what made it go wonky.

Poco awesome hoping for lots o' chickie doos for both of us!!!!!

My tetanus is current just got a DPT this spring.

I'll pass on the pcn though makes me stop breathing!

Thanks for the support over Oreo everyone. I've warned Gary no matter what choices I make about who stays and who goes he is not to give me a hard time, even joking.

Cathie, I spent 2 solid days out in the sun putting up hoses and poking holes in them for misters this week. It'll get to you if you don't have hypoglycemia so be careful! It felt really good to be under the water while I was doing it though, as long as the water was hitting me I didn't mind at all.
I was at Newcastle for just a little while but it was way too hot. There were hardly any birds compared to the other times I was there. I think it's just too dang hot for people. The birds that were there looked miserable from the heat. I won't get any more birds from outside sources anymore but that didn't didn't stop me from admiring the Dark Brahma trio and the pairs of Bantam Cochins.

I don't know which is better to lift the spirits chickie doo therapy or camera therapy, but either way I have it covered.

This little one on the right is hilarious lol!!! What is it? I love that expression.
