***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Good Monday to ya'll! We have decided here to embark on a new adventure. Looks like we're going to get some cattle, not sure when, but we found the mini dexters and herefords and fell in love with them. This should be one interesting ride. I'm extremely excited, scared, but excited. Like I've said before, I was born & raised a city girl. I have always had a love for all animals and wanted to live in the country. This country living has been great so far. Love my chickens, Love my garden, my 6 year old tell us everyday that he' so glad we moved out here, why not bring on some cattle.

Very cool! Are the mini breeds more or less just pets? I have been playing with the idea of raising a feeder steer or two next year. I just haven't decided if I want to hassle with them or not. I love the thought of better beef and I have the room for it but I have never raised cattle before so it would be an adventure.

When do you think you will get them? Please show pictures when you do.

Ornery little cuss, isn't he? I think you'll get your point across to him a lot better than if I were handling it. At least you'll get some eggs out of him, we know he's fertile now.
Try Kass's full force water hose remedy. I can see how it would work...because the chickens wouldn't know that the water comes from the hose. In Kass's roo's mind the water is coming magically out of her fingertips every time he looks at her

If I'd have known the hen was going to start laying that next day I'd have hung onto him for a few wks to collect some eggs to incubate.
She's in with my big dark Blue Cochin boy now though and I'm getting eggs, I think I'll save up 6 and incubate them.

morning guys! i am having a typical monday, dave let Galahad(glad he is a mellow rooster) and the ladies out- normal procedure, but apparently rusty the showgirl rooster had gotten out- thanks to the guineas who can't figure him out,he pushed his way out of the hutch, so i had to go lock galahad up while i tried to get rusty- have you ever watched the movie Hatari? there is a scene where the ostritches get out and everyone is trying to catch them- anyway, reminded me of that- so i need to work on his pen and fix it, i love those guineas but they sure have been rascals lately.... for some reason they have this thing against rusty... i guess its the nn of his!

I just answered it, Kass Yes, the adult rooster I got from Joe is your cockerel's "chickie-daddy". I love this boy very much, he's every bit as sweet as my Faverolles boy. Why are some roos so gentle and nice and others are such buttheads??

What an amazing Monday! Still no eggs from the silkie serama pairs from Blanchard auction... Some have been here now a month - how long do they take to settle in for eggs start up again?


So do hens attack anything? Reason I am asking had a grey dead cat in the chicken yard - nothing attacked from what I can tell and already disposed of the body.. But looks like it just fell over dead - did the scary chickens maybe give the old girl a heart attack or something?

I know this is not chicken related, but wanted to share with my fellow Okie BYCers. If you have not tried the Ninja express chop food processor you MUST try one! It is awesome! They come in different sizes. I got mine at the local WalMart. I cannot imagine not using this processor while canning chow chow, pepper relish, salsa, etc.

Kass, I am going to try your water hose remedy with my roo today. He has just started flogging my in the past couple of weeks, got me a couple of times, but his posture every time I go out into the yard indicates he'd just love to do it again. Hopefully this will get him under control in a hurry.
