Well, the neighbors are at it again. Only now they decided they can complain about our chickens. They said our bantam rooster crows too much ... it only crows when they start messing around in the driveway and against the fence next to the chicken house. We can't even hear our rooster crow in our house (and they never go outside except to do yard work) but it certainly doesn't make as much noise as their constant (every other day) mowing and weed eating. Besides as long as they aren't crowing between midnight and day light, the city won't do anything. We've already talked to our city code enforcement who gave us the thumbs up for our birds so the neighbors can just whine all they want. It's just a big pain in the rear end to deal with the constant harassment from them. They also said their coop smells horrible, which is doesn't. Sure it smells like chickens and in the 108 degree temps, what do they expect exactly? We clean it once a week and put down fresh straw every day. It's better than their gas exhaust from the generator they've been running next to the coop and the smells of acetone and ammonia coming from their yard that are strong enough to make us all sick to our stomachs. I told them the smell was just going to get worse because I was moving my compost pile to the driveway beside their house and they started screaming that I couldn't do that. Funny, but they keep telling me I can't tell them what to do on their side of the driveway so why do they think they can tell me what to do on my side of the driveway ... that they insist isn't a driveway ... and they want to grow grass on ... but that they now have a car parked on so we can't even get into our driveway ...

. I heard once that you can't put sense into a fools brain and now I guess I'm finding out the truth of it.

I would give just about anything to have a farm and move out in the country right now!!!
This is exactly why we're trying to sell this house and move. We found a short sale house in Meers that needs a lot of work, but we still have this money pit.

Here is what I got first thing this morning. My jack russell came in covered in poop, AGAIN!!

Needless to say she gets a bath several times a week and has been renamed Poop-Dog in our house. I just don't understand the fascination she has with poop!

I'm not sure why some are sideways. They're right on my computer.

Oh we have a dog like that he is a mutt and he will go roll in cow pooh all day long if we allowed it! Drives me insane! He no longer gets to come in the house for that very reason!

So what type of paperwork has to be done at the end of the year for your taxes? We've been considering getting a tax permit, but we weren't sure of all the extra paperwork that goes into tax time.
That is what we have wondered as well. I don't want to have to keep track of every egg I sell lol. I do keep all our feed bills and I try to keep track of eggs we sell or when I sell birds but in no way would it be enough for an IRS audit, lol. I just do it so I see how far in debt we are to these little feathered friends in the back yard!

Different deal, I think. Tax exempt number lets you buy stuff for your farm without paying sales tax on it. There is no paperwork involved except the store takes your information and keeps it on file. You are thinking of a sales tax permit where you sell stuff and charge sales tax on it. Most folks don't do that for personal sales.

However, those of us who sell at markets and are running a business have to. We have to have a sales tax permit, an egg handlers license, and we have to use new cartons to sell our eggs in, not used. That is the law. And that is why we have to charge more for our eggs to break even.

Although truth be told, everyone who sells eggs is supposed to do that, whether you sell them out your back door or what. But lots of people don't.
