***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Here's the Black one with the tufts, in the 3rd picture you can see his tufts sticking out, they're so cute. I also have this Splash Araucana (these aren't Ameraucana, they're different) who I'd love to find a home for. He was hatched with no tufts and a tail but he's still purebred Araucana with their wonderful temperaments. If I can find homes for these boys it would sure save me a lot of money and headache and I'd be really grateful. The last picture is them both together.

My birds seem to be fairing well in this heat so far. I make sure and cool them with frozen peas and they love them! i put frozen 2 liters into the 55 gal water drum to keep it cool for them so far they are doing well and have not lost any but then next couple of days will tell.

Their temperaments are awesome, that's why I was considering caponizing all of them. I ended up with like 4 boys out of 7 in this hatch. By the time I got these guys plus the other boys here caponized I'd end up spending way too much. So I decided to place who I can. They're known to get along with other males and (like Faverolles) are more on the passive side. The adult Araucana boy I got from BanjoJoe is wonderful! Comes running to see me because he knows I've got food. Anything I give him he trucks it over to his girls, not an aggressive bone in his body. He's separated by a fence from the Cochin boy's yard and those 2 lay next to the fence together all the time, no fighting whatsoever. He's the reason I fell in love with this breed, they're so gentle and sweet. I've handled these babies a LOT so they're really tame. Splash is a really pretty color, I agree. The Blacks are cool though because they get a green and purple sheen on their feathers when theyr'e grown. They look like prisms.

Sounds Awesome!! I have one Rooster for sure. He got frostbite on his feet a lonnng time ago (when I ddint own him) and now he has no feet, just stubs. My babies are SUPPOSED to be pullets, but I think some of them might be roosters... So hopefully everyone will get along. Its so hard for me to get rid of birds once I have become attached to them

birds are doing ok in the heat, but am dunking them a coule times a day and the big ones have good mud puddles

Plus watch the farm auction listings. The High Plains Journal usually has many, many pages of farm auctions across Ok, Ks and Co.

Man, why did you have to go and tell that to an auction junky like me? Now I'm off to find this journal...

On the economy, I was surprised since the economy tanked 4 years ago to see less stuff at the big equipment auctions instead of more. I figured people would be hurting and anxious to sell stuff, but I think it has just meant they aren't buying new and are instead holding on to the old, patching it up rather than selling.

Still plenty of good finds to be had, though.

ps, Buster wouldn't those birds be beaked if the run a pasture operation also, I think it said on their site it was a pasture based operation!!!

I didn't see that, but I'll check again. I have heard of pasture operations that debeaked, though, especially when they run large numbers. Me, I never want to get them that concentrated where it is necessary or even advantageous.
