***OKIES in the BYC III ***

We live in the middle of town and yet there are days when we can't even get a cell signal. I bemoan that I have a miniature computer that I can search the internet on but I can't make a phone call from some days. Lol.

Didn't get the garden bed done before it got too dark to work. We ended up going out and someone had messed with our duck pen so we had to spend time fixing that before we could start on what we wanted to do. I'm ready to set up a hidden camera at the back of our property. Every morning this week we have gone out and opened the fence across our new driveway and have had to clean out all kinds of twisted metal, pieces of metal hangers that have been sharpened to points, metal can lids that have been bent in two, chunks of broken bricks with pointed edges, etc and now someone knocked over part of our duck pen. I'm pretty sure it's our neighbors but proving it will be a challenge. Why can't they just leave us alone????

Tomorrow will be spent in Stillwater moving our son into his dorm room and checking up on my mom. Hopefully she's getting around better. She had surgery on her foot a couple of weeks ago so walking has been off limits. It's not fun to keep her still.

Lynn, I hope you get your surgery soon and start feeling better. Being chronically ill is no fun, I know, but my asthma and chronic lung infections are nothing compared to having physical pain and not being able to even go outside. Gardening and caring for my birds is what keeps me sane in the midst of a lot of very unfun and unfair things in life. At least for the moment your wife and kids can help you out. That's a blessing.

Snapped a couple of pics of my turkeys this week so I thought I'd share. (I really hope I haven't already posted any of these ... I really can't remember)
This is one of our toms. He was so funny the day I took this and wouldn't leave the camera alone.

Here's four of them hogging the treats bowl. We always feed them treats in a green plastic bowl and they've figured out the color. As soon as they see us with one of the bowls they charge at us and then try to grab the bowl out of our hands. Today they got apples, yellow squash, and oatmeal. They wouldn't eat the yellow squash though but the chickens did. They ended up taking the bowl of oatmeal away from my daughter and throwing it all over her then trying to peck it off of her. She was not happy but managed to stand up and knock off all the oatmeal.

Went to the sale it was nice to see a few BYC'ers Not many birds and not a lot of other stuff really, I am probably not going to be returning to that sale it gets really old and annoying to hear grown adults being scolded every other item that comes to the table by someone yelling out "You're not lookin'! " while children are not being supervised and allowed to pull feathers out of roosters tails that are waiting to be sold, just seems kinda backwards to me, But then it's always like that there, When my rabbits hit the sale table the auctioneer (not the actual person doing the auctioneering) made a huge fuss about the rabbits water bowl being spilled and getting the rabbits feet and bellies wet by holding the offending bowl up and proclaiming "This is exactly why" and proceeded to slam my cage around knocking my stainless steel pan on to the concrete, The cage of 20 birds was proclaimed to be "All roosters!" 3 times before bidding started while it was mostly roosters there were some pullets but that was my fault for not separating them into more cages, I could have said something then but was kinda stunned and just watched in disbelief mostly, Anyway, I was ready to leave so went to check out, I made $61 dollars and was given a check after 7pm on a Saturday night so I asked where I might be able to cash it and was snapped at with "At any bank" At that point my restraint was starting to slip and I didn't want that to happen I was just wanting to be gone so didn't debate the fact that most banks aren't open that late on a Saturday I just kept my mouth shut and left, I will miss the social aspect of going to this sale but there are other sales and I look forward to seeing people I know there,

Geeze, Lynn, here I was going to come on here and whine about my piddly little spider bite and then see your post. I think I had best keep quiet and count my blessings.

Pulling for you, big fella. Hope everything works out okay for you.

Les, they can't have access to the internet. They have friends and family put up profiles and stuff for them trying to get people to write to them but they don't have any direct access.
(Thank God I might add).
They don't normally have access to the internet but they aren't supposed to have cell phones either and they confiscate them quite often so while he shouldn't be able to if someone really wants something and can pay for it they can get about anything and that's kinda scary but true, I guess it was over a year ago some inmate out at OSR had a FB acct and was posting on it from his cell (meaning phone and living quarters) I think it was a news station that first saw it or reported it then he was busted with the contraband, I think he would be what's called both in and out of prison a "Crash Test Dummy" LOL

A friend of mine went to the local John Deere dealer and got a belt for his mower. Well he kinda put the cart before the horse and after looking at the mower we decided to scrap it instead so he took the belt back.

They informed him that purchases over five dollars would be refunded by check so he said no big deal cut the check. Oh we'll mail it to you was the response, two weeks later he got the check.

Bill until that gavel drops those critters are yours and if you don't like the way they are being treated you have every right to speak up.
I've seen more then one ring man get told about that very aspect

One night at Jones a fella had the misfortune to poke one of Teva's horses with a sorting stick. Was a good thing he was young and could run fast. His stick is still behind the seat of her truck. Nothing irritates her more then the critters being mis-handled, well except for unsupervised children.

I see a lot of half grown kids in the back at places like Jones, parents don't realize that all it would take would be one well placed hoof to end it all for them. I've seen them unload full trailers of cattle and just run them into the alleyway to sort them. At least Damon checks the alley before doing that, many don't.

So glad y'all have taken advantage of zennioptical! We love their glasses. Think we have purchased 20 pr. My eye doctor doesn't like us shopping there. My aunt has worked at the same eye dr for 15 yrs & they approved the glasses. Think my eye doctor just wants us to purchase our glasses in his office.
Doctors offices buy their glasses from someone who wholesales and then they make a profit off those. We always take our rescriptions to someone else and don't pay the high prices at the eye doctor's office.

Quote: Lynn and Les...you are both wonderful mentors for the rest of us. Your health issues have not kept you from encouraging and informing the rest of us and it is very much appreciated. Family means everything when we are down. My two back surgeries were in 89 and 90 and I wore a back brace for 13 months. Best thing I ever did was have those surgeries....and following doctor instructions.

You can start keeping ancecdotal records on what you are experiencing....the written notes on damages, etc.
Keep each days collection in a zip bag with the date and time collected written on it with a marker. Setting up a camera is still a really good idea...the video with speak volumes!
Love the snood!

Hey baby.... wanna see my snood?
