***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Morning all! So glad it is Friday. Today we were to go to the state fair but the threat of rain with 5 kids doesn't do anything for me, lol. So we will stay home and get some school work, house work and maybe some chicken work done. Took all the guinea eggs out of the hatcher. They should have hatched Tuesday. The 3 that did hatch were out by Sunday. I just left them in there just in case a few were late bloomers. Have a few OEGB and some Banty Cochins due to hatch on Tuesday. Need to set more eggs as well but going to wait until Sunday for that.

Rinda those are some seriously cute chickies!!! Love the little topknot chicky. I almost bought some ducks last weekend with topknots. I had to keep repeating to myself "you know nothing about ducks and have no pen space for them" to keep from buying them. Then went through Atwoods, and I feel sure I would have bought some by "accident" if I wasn't going back to work for 4 hours lol.

Hope the birds enjoy this cooler weather and start laying better. I am doing good to get a dozen eggs a day, not sure what is going on with them. I think we will give the free ranging roos this week to finish out then process them all. It will seem really quiet without them running about the yard but they are starting to chase the guineas. We have lost two barred rock roos to wildlife this week as well. Just found a pile of feathers and nothing else. I figure proces them for us before the wildlife eats them.

Everyone have a great weekend and hope to see some of you at Newcastle tomorrow night.

Quote: Reading the ordinances you posted, the limit of "3 dogs or 4 cats over 4 months of age" is under the kennel owner section. It does not appear to include the "domestic animal". So I don't think you are screwed either with your pets or with your birds.
There is nothing that I can read in that section to limit the number of domestic animals....just the containment requirement so that your birds are not a "nuisance".

Happy Friday everyone!! Hope everyone gets some rain!! We need it!!

Silly question, again:
I have oyster shell set out for my hens, and I know that they will only eat it when they need it, but JEEZ!! Its like they never eat it! Should I be concerned? Or maybe try to mix it in with something? Maybe they dont like the taste? Im not sure? Any suggestions? Thanks!
If your birds are out free-ranging, they are probably picking up enough calcium or grit to help with digestion.
Beside having a feeder for the oyster shell, I mix some oyster shell in the feeders with my layer pellets. I figure the girls get some when they eat. I also provide chick grit for the young stock.

Hey Robin! The little Blue Cochin bantam I got from you had gone missing without a trace a few wks ago and I was just sick as I've lost some of my favorites recently to (what appears to be) the neighbors cat. Well the little Cochin girl was strutting around the layers yard today with 10 little tiny babies proud as can be :p She was so bound and determined to sit on eggs and we kept taking her eggs every day. So evidently she managed to get up under their coop buidling. It's 10x14, I never could find her every time I looked. I figured that blasted cat had got her. There's a spangled game rooster and 2 Silkie boys in that yard so the babies are adorable! So her and her babies will get their own yard now :)

Seen a good amount of rain, poor dogs look so muddy. The chickens played between moments of rain. Suppose to have more rain coming. Only down side is it messes my Internet all up!
DH signed a contract for a cash offer on one of our houses today! Less than we hoped for but pure profit, so it's all good. We bought the house 6 yrs ago & the rent has more than paid for the purchase over the last 6yrs. Hopefully since it is a cash sale it will be quick. He says building our house is on hold until we know what is going on with me... Keeps mentioning moving back into town, or what we can do to make things easier here.
Tonight DH tried to help Taron with her math & fell asleep in the process, he is still on the couch in his uniform. Glad he has next wk off to catch up on his sleep.
Anyone have big weekend plans??? Sounds like several are going to be on egg watch. Enjoy those new babies!!!
We have plans to go to the OK State Fair tomorrow.

hi everyone new to the BYC some of you might know me this is jack

Welcome Jack!!! Jump in & join us. Glad you finally are taking the plunge!!!

Mitzi think how long ago you could of had those chicks if you were not being so mean taking her poor eggs!!!! Hopefully these new chicks will prevent any accidentally chick purchases on your next feed trip.

Cathie you are brave taking all those kids to the fair in the cold rain, especially since I remember you have one that doesn't like rain & mud puddles. Hope y'all had a good time!
We planned on going to the fair for "school" Tuesday, but I think I am backing out. I spent 8 hours out of the house Wednesday for apts & errands & I have been in bed most of yesterday & today.
My chickens are so excited about this weather. They are free ranging out furthers than I have ever seen them.

Just popping on to say howdy for the day. Nothing big happening. All of my stupid melons that didn't produce a thing over the summer are now loaded with melons swelling and growing ... of course now it's too cold for them to ripen properly. Jeez, can't win for losing. Hopefully it will warm up a little bit at least. I've been freezing all day. Ha! who would of thought I'd say that 6 weeks ago ... Hubby and I are working for the weekend helping a man clean out his garage. Not really what I want to do or need to do but income is important I guess. We have new meat birds coming in on Thursday next week and still have to get the brooder set up. Think we may get some black austrolorps thrown in with our order if we can since we've lost some of our layers over the summer. We've never had any before but are intrigued by their size so thought we'd check them out. What we really want are some authentic Dominiques but they don't have any available right now. I guess there's always next spring.

Good thing there's not an Atwoods near here.

Hey, someone posted about an online site for buying eyeglasses not too long ago and I looked at it at the time for reference but I can't remember what the site was and now my daughter broke her frames. Anyone know what it was? Thanks.
