***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Kimbroe, I'm not a broody expert, I have only had the one broody and she did protect her chicks from the others, but they weren't aggressive at all towards them. Oreo my roo also actively "gaurded" both the broody mom and the chicks. Skyfire my broody wasn't one of Oreo's favs and he seldom was around her before the chicks or since then, but while she had chicks he was always by her side. The chick(s) and mom won't budge for a day or so after hatch, but after that we made sure there was a ramp for them and they did fine.

I have 1 rooster, i guess cockerel. He's about 5 months old. Black Australorp. He and my BA hen are always together. So I'm not sure if he'll even notice there's babies around with my broody girl. I have a ramp to the coop, I just hope it's not too steep for the little ones.

Well, it's certainly been a long couple of days but kind of fun. Got to educate a lot of people about turkeys and bantam chickens. I didn't know so many people would be interested and ask so many questions about them. I had a little boy that was about 7 or 8 who asked me questions for probably half an hour about our turkeys. He was really curious. I also found out had I entered our sebright as a sebright, he would have been disqualified because he's apparently a freak. He has a single comb instead of a rose comb. Oh well. I entered him as a single comb clean leg so I guess all's good. Ha, didn't know he wasn't right.

I beaned one in the head with my cell phone and he has learned to keep a bit more distance. The problem with the juveniles is that they're dumb as posts. They're bold and stupid. I have one here that has landed on my drive way and walked INTO my garage where I found him tugging on the bars of my dog crate with a rooster inside. You'd probably be doing you and the hawk both a favor if you taught it some fear of humans. I like to take a green laser pointer and aim it at the hawk until it scares it off.

I'm expecting eggs to hatch this weekend too, well Sun/Mon.

I have a hatch date of Sunday too. Only one fertile egg left though.

Seen a good amount of rain, poor dogs look so muddy. The chickens played between moments of rain. Suppose to have more rain coming. Only down side is it messes my Internet all up!

DH signed a contract for a cash offer on one of our houses today! Less than we hoped for but pure profit, so it's all good. We bought the house 6 yrs ago & the rent has more than paid for the purchase over the last 6yrs. Hopefully since it is a cash sale it will be quick. He says building our house is on hold until we know what is going on with me... Keeps mentioning moving back into town, or what we can do to make things easier here.
Tonight DH tried to help Taron with her math & fell asleep in the process, he is still on the couch in his uniform. Glad he has next wk off to catch up on his sleep.

Anyone have big weekend plans??? Sounds like several are going to be on egg watch. Enjoy those new babies!!!

Yes, I changed to a broody yard now, since I lost so many babies to hawks and cats. I didn't know I had any problem w/ them since I just had adults and no predation until the babies.

Here's our little ones that hatched Sunday-Tuesday, got a little bit of everything! One lakenvelder, maybe one Sultan? (it was supposed to be Lakenvelder), one BBR OEGB, two cream legbar girls, three Isbars, and two Ameraucanas (hatched from our own eggs).
