Oklahoma Gardening on PBS is talking about green roofs that are sucessful here in OK on this wks episode. They gave the cost to be $10-$30 a sq ft & roofs can last as long as 60 yrs. Think the 60 yrs would be those fortunate to not get hit buy a major hail storm. I know several here have talked about experimenting with green roofs for their coops. Think you can view the episodes online - for those fortunate enough to have high speed Internet.
Think I need to find some new hobbies for all these sleepless nights- slept 3 hours. Tried crossword puzzles but griping onto a pen & concentrating on the puzzle was challenging. Reading at times reauires to much concentration. Typing takes much longer than it use to. Sewing & playing on my cricut are challenging. All the animals & family is asleep at night. Maybe I can get me a nocturnal pet, we have friends with sugar gliders (they smell awful). Guess I should google noctornial pets. Wonder if Hedge hogs smell bad?

You could crochet, that isn't as challenging as sewing, and there is a block swap going on right now you could join.

Kass sad to say I can't physically crochet or knit. Have a lot of trouble with my hands hurting when I try to grip things. DD14 actually knows how to crochet & knit. She fought herself. Wish someone could teach her to actually create something. I don't have the knowledge.

Sorry about that, not being able to use your hands for stuff like that lets out a lot of hobby and fun stuff.

Check your area for a crocheting club (it is usually older ladies not sure how your daughter would respond to that) they would LOVE to teach a young one how to make stuff w/ crochet. I am self taught too. There are tons of books and the internet that has lots of tutorials, things that a young girl would like to do rather then the "Old lady crocheting" lol

It was brutal at times. Hardly for any rain here, seems most of it stopped at Chickasha.

it was drenching here- went out to lock birds up and halfway there a crack of thunder made me turn back to the house, found out later it took out one of our big trees

When I played Jet crowing a few minutes ago, a little silkie in the brooder behind me crowed as well. He can't be more than 14 days old; others in the brooder are asyoung as 4 days. I moved the ones that are a little bit older (including the other early crower) into the barn a couple of days ago, so this is another early developer. I wish I could catch these tinies crowing, but they are in a clear brooder so react to me when I move, and of course, aren't going to do it when I'm looking.

Sears has loppers on sale for less than $9. I know snake season is over but I am ordering a few extra pair to place in strategic locations. Seems when we find snakes we always have to ca for back up to locate the loppers. I know a couple of you ordered snake catchers like Bill Francis has, but I can order several pair of loppers that do about the same thing & spend less money.

Had to share some pics. The first 4 pics are of the beauties that I got at the brand new Okmulgee County Fairgrounds auction that was held on Tuesday evening. The last 4 are of Chowder my favorite rooster. He is and olive egger roo and is the perfect gentleman.
Anyone help me out on what color these silkies are? Blue or splash?

Would like to add a brand new auction to the list. It is at the Okmulgee County Fairgrounds. Held the second Tuesday of every month at 6:30 p.m. They start taking birds at noon on the day of the auction. Equipment is sold first (feeders, etc.), small birds (parakeets, quail, etc.), chicks and then the bigger fowl. The auction is held inside of a sale barn and a concession is provided. The auction is run by Nate Porter of Morris.
Tuesday October 9th was the first auction. They had chickens, geese, ducks, quail, guineas, parakeets, pheasants and pigeons. Only saw one cage of birds that didn't look good and I'm pretty sure they were just molting.
Hope to see some of you there in November.

we had a great time at the GREEN COUNTRY SWAP and SHOW it was great to watch all the young folks show birds we had a great turn out on show birds and the compatition was tuff here are some pics
