***OKIES in the BYC III ***

Compared to many of the other show animals it isn't very costly. It also doesn't cost as much for entry fee's. It is by far the cheapest animal showing to do. I would encourage you to find local shows that you can go to & see birds (breeders often have birds for sale there too). If you have a local 4H you can call them & see if they have an upcoming show, they would love to share with you.

Depend on how big your county is we have a small county and show and my feed store bird got grand champion bantam at our 4H show.

Nana is your hen still rasing her adopted chick? I would offer 2 girls to help collect pecans but they're pretty busy on our farm lately. Try to make some pecan butter if you get a chance. I buy it at least once a month for $16 for a 12 oz jar (I buy I at whole foods or sprouts) No one else in my house likes pecans but for me they are as yummy as chocolate.
Saw the rhematoligist Monday officially diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Also went in for more testing not looking good -- found a nodule on my lower left lung and they're going to be removing the lower lobe on my left lung as well-- have several consults out to see if they can remove it Friday but surgeon said will probably have to wait four weeks after my liver resection for the lung surgery. They think it is to risky to do both. Waiting for the pet scan is even harder now.
Got me a nook HD+ to keep me entertained at the hospital, nice to have a new toy to keep my mid off things.
Mitzi I understand all too well you comment on testing & Drs. The dr now even said today they let this to way to long. My primary doctor submits the referal & then I am at the mercy of my insurance to find someone to take me. She has done her best, went to order her an edible arrangement & DH thinks I am crazy!!! If she hadn't kept trying I wouldn't be having this procedure-- I am so thankful she has done all she could. Thanks for letting me vent. Trying my best not to talk about things around the kids until we know a specific diagnosis & treatment plan.
Christina, yes Sweet Sally has continued to attend to her adopted chick with gusto. She still snuggles with it and protects it. I now have her and Annabelle in the same floor cage and Sally keeps her chick away from AnnaBelle because Annabelle tries to entice it away from her...thus there were two feeders and two waterers for the first several days. Now they are much better together.
I think you will enjoy your new nook HD+.. I'm really enjoying my ipad and use it every nigh...still learning new stuff.
As for your surgeries...that sucks! But, I'm pleased that the Doctor has pushed to get your insurance to work with you and any new doctors to treat you. Recovery from surgery is a road none of us want to travel often and for you to have two scheduled is going to be a trial that your family is strong enough to help you along. I will be praying for you, your family and your doctors as you travel the uphill climb.

Oh, and since you convinced me to buy the Bo Garrett Blue Cochin eggs at the Newcastle auction, I'll have to post some pictures of those Blues that hatched! Thank you for encouraging me to continue bidding. I love them. These are pictures from August and I'll need to get some more recent ones. for you.

The pullet on the left is from Iowa and the roo is a BG egger.

Emach,
It is great that your son is very interested in chickens.
In mid December there is a huge Poultry Show in Shawnee. It has many champion breeders bringing birds. It is a good way to see some showing. Some breeders bring birds to sell too.

Hey guys, especially Carl, Grey Bear and some other folks I can't remember right now. . . I have a friend from Mississippi that is looking for some Dominique colored game birds, a rooster and a few hens. Anyone got any to sell? I am headed down to Dallas on Saturday to sell her a trio of my large fowl Doms and she just messaged me about these other birds. Message me if you have any to sell and let's see if we can work something out.

someone suggested to me the other night that I should try to get my five year old to start showing chickens. Well, How do I go about getting info on how to get started and what not? I know my son would love to do this! My child prefers my "Chicken Health Handbook" to any of his scooby-doo books anyday! And hes pretty dang good with chickens as well! Thanks for the help guys! Glad you all are around!
Emily

My five year old is going to enter a bantam in the Shawnee show this year. Come by the Dominique club table and maybe the two of them can talk chickens! It'll be a hoot!

Here is a first! the egg on the upper right is a goose egg laid by Ninya...the Easter rescue goose. For comparison, the three on the left are bantie eggs, the lower left is a pullet egg and the egg on the right is an Australorp.

Charlie is the Chinese gray and Ninya is the White Chinese.
