Donna,

Have you considered going to the Afton Poultry Swap this weekend? It's less than an hour away from you, I think. Gerald and I are thinking of going and taking some birds and some veggies to sell. I could bring some young mille fleur d'uccles ... one for sure is looking like a cockeral.

It just might be a nice weekend coming up ... chance of rain and temp's a bit cooler. Oh I hope so!

Good morning,

No news yet. Just hope she got some rest last night. I know I did not. Going up to the hospital in a few hours to check on her. She is only allowing her husband in the room during delivery.

Last time I was at the hospital was when Lynn was playing with snakes and I had chicks hatching........................yep I have chicks hatching right now, some hatched out last night. I am not even going to open the incubator until tonight. Barn yard specials and a fertility check on the cochins.

Luvs2garden - not to make light of the situation with your daughter in the hospital, but have you had very many times in the past 4 months when you DIDN'T have chicks hatching?

The steroids will do a lot toward developing the baby's lungs and premie care has advanced a lot in the past 25 years since my sister first became a neonatal nurse. Your daughter and grandchild are in my prayers.

Nope I sure have not had much time that I was not hatching.

Yea I am not really to worried. I know she is at one of the best NIC units in the state. They say the baby is at least 5 lbs now. My concern is how long will they let her go after her water broke. I broke my water 36 hrs before my 3rd daughter was born and I got an infection.

Good heavens, Life comes at ya fast.... Tina, hang in there. Don't stroke out on us. Breathe. It will be OK. You got my prayers.

Going tonight to do the TV taping thing again. Gosh, I suck at that thing. Got keeps giving me opportunities to do it again and I suck every time. But I am not giving up. Maybe I will suck just a bit less this time.

Les you are a tough stuffski. That heat woulda finished me off a long time ago. I have been complaining about 112 - 109. Geez... is there no end in sight?

I just went out and all the girls are in a spot of shade up buy the house bawking. Last night for some reason they ate like a military unit. I think they are hungry....there is all matter of singing going on.

Mr. Squeaky had me cracking up the other day. He is my self blue OEG roo. This summer he is really trying to make a hit with the ladies. I was out changing water and he was doing the food cluck thing. Over and over. No one cared. Finally a BR came over and he dropped a single piece of corn at her feet and did the dance. I was busting up. I told the hennie... look out, you know what they want when they buy ya dinner!! I keep telling him there is not going to be any BrownChickenBrownCow....because he is too short! But he is so chivalrous. Ya gotta give the pipsqueak credit for trying! AT least he's comedy relief!

Hey, folks. Good morning to you.

We have decided on a couple of types of meat birds for our home consumption. Colored rangers is one, but those we will have to order each time, I reckon, because they are hybrids and won't breed true I'm told.

The other is one of the standard Cornish breeds, for our breeding meat birds. Dark Cornish appears to be the most popular, and I've seen some of their pictures. They aren't as big as the Cornish X (which we want no part of), but they are still very nice size birds.

I haven't seen any of these at the few auctions I've attended, so wonder if folks around here even own any. We will order them from a hatchery as a last resort, but I would much rather buy them as locally as possible from fellow BYC Okies.

So, if any of you raise this breed (especially the Dark) and are willing to part with some, please let me know, either here or by PM. Maybe we can set up a time and place to make a deal.

Thanks! Y'all have a nice, hot day!

Luvs congrats on the new addition to your family!!!

Tina, Glad things are good and congrats. Won't be long and you will be telling her to "quit chasing the chickens" and "don't step in the chicken poop"

On a side note, what are you gonna do with all of the chicks you are hatching? I have well over a hundred in various stages and I have no idea what to do with them.

Chick prices were awful at Blanchard. I am talking 25 cents on some quality chicks.
Everything else was good overall.
