Good Morning my Okie friends!!!

I hope everyone is staying cool~ I know it will be another scorcher today!! I will sit in this nice AC all day to go home and work outside, time to do some clean up around my pens. I am having some issues with my younger ones......not sure what is going on yet but have lost one bird and have another that is not doing well, but not to worry it is now in the AC with my girl taking care of it. I am off to get my day started. I will have the accountant in the office today so I may not be posting much! Have a good one Okies!

Boy I'm glad that night of "hair" talk is over, just plain depressing!:hitLol Enjoy it while you have it!
Henny do you have well water or municipal water. It must be a scarce commidity out there. Guess raising ducks or geese is out of the question for you huh?
Getting antsy, going to a swap this weekend ! Yeepee!

UPDATE:

Claire has hatched, they took to top off the incubator. She is still under the O2 dome tho, just waiting on the Doctor to write up the orders for her to be taken off that. Jenn thinks that we should be able to hold her today. Come on dryer I need to go see my baby. I know I should have washed clothes last night but I was soooooooooooooo exhausted. Will update after I get back

Thanks for all the prayers and thoughts. Keep em coming.

Tina, That is awesome... I'm so happy for you guys!!!

Dachshunds...we are on county water....but I hate using it. The farmers glare at ya.... but I figure I have as much right to keep my hens alive.

I really do try to conserve. Use old dog water on plants, use old chicken water on trees. I just hope that swamp cooler comes through. I think it would be way more regulated.

As a matter of fact I do, but I don't suppose that shipped in from halfway across the country was what you had in mind. Are you using them for nesting boxes?

Don, great looking birds and thanks for the pics. Did you get them from the homesteaders in Arkansas that said they sold 1200 chicks this spring? I saw an old craiglslist ad for hatching eggs and those look like the pics from their ad, but then again, memory doesn't always serve me well. BTW, I should be getting some verified results in the next month or 2 on that gender thing. I'll let you know.

daschunds--I have ducks, am I not suppose to? Funny thing, we can't get the ducks (1 pekin, 2 buff orps) to swim in the little pool but they love playing in the misters. They must be desert ducks,

go figure.

Henny-the teenagers are cool.

With the hair talk last night it made me think about that awkward stage between down and feathers though.

Ke_Ben...how's your weather?.... I can only imagine. Mike and I talked about going to Tucson before we found OKlahoma. I told him I would only move to Tucson if we had a pool and only move to Oklahoma if I had a storm cellar. I think I would have gotten more use out of the pool.

Hello fellow Okies! I have been busy with school all summer sorry about not checking in very often.

Anyhoo, I have a question for you all. I have 10-15 pullets that are 20 weeks and counting but, so far not 1 egg. I let them free range and I am afraid they might be laying somewhere in the yard. How can I tell if they are laying? Also, should I keep them in the coop until a certain time of day to make sure they lay only in the coop? As a newbie I have so much to learn.

Andrea

Well usually by about three to four weeks. Their neck feathers will start turning redder and the pullets will be brown. also by that time they should have a good start on their comb.
I can usually tell when they are a day or so old but a few days after that it gets confusing.
