Henny-the weather has been kind of mild, 105+ by 10 am, and after that I just don't look cause it just makes me hotter!

I think about 112-117 but it is suppose to cool down to maybe 108 next week. Some moisture/rain would be nice but you pay for that with the humidity.

Monty- what is the trick with the day-old Wellies? Thanks for the info on auctionlover.

andisgarden-4 month layer is pretty rare although they had a thread on an 8 wk RSL layer here on BYC that has laid more than 1 small egg. If you don't expect eggs until they are 6-8 months old it's not so

disappointing/frustrating/angering/what am I feeding these stupid free-loaders for anyway, and a pleasant surprise if you get something early. Just my 2 cents worth and experience but then again, money and my opinion probably aren't worth that much anymore. Too much depends on breed, weather, environment, phase of the moon, and mood of the chickens.

You guys all have a good day, it's time to go play in the heat some more.

Monty- Thank you so much for posting for me.

Jerry has known the family for over 20yrs. He is now the manager at their tool store. Until Tues he was the only one who worked there that was not related to the owner. So to make the long story short, Jerry hired some temp help in the back but needed someone to price stuff that came in on the trucks, so I came up to help.
Foy the owner it was his grandson that passed, asked Jerry to keep the store going and the tool auction.

HALELUJAH!!!! I just went outside and my Black Star (the one I was wondering about) was making a rukus in the coop. I went inside to take a peek, and low and behold she laid an egg. When she got up there was another one right beside hers

I am a proud mamma! I forgot how to post pics or I would do it.

Here is my chicken that I caught laying an egg and now I must find the other little girl that gave me an egg.

Well that was my fault, they don't have any yet. I let my husband not build them because I told him we didn't need them for awhile. That is one of the reasons I was asking so that my husband would have a little fire under him.

So, today he came home early to build my egg boxes. It helps that my birthday is tomorrow..Happy Birthday to me... YEAH!

Since there has been talk of peacocks on the board I thought I would share a picture from our recent trip to the OKC zoo! This mama and babies would come right up close. Hubby and son had a hard time getting me to leave the area. I wanted to stay and play with the babies!

I lost a child (well we didn't lose her because we know exactly where she is, and will see her again). It is absolutely the hardest thing to ever go through and I simply couldn't have made it through without my Savior, Jesus Christ. I would have never thought it possible to go on without one of my children (an extension of myself), but as I say in my testimony, of God's grace in my life, that all things are possible through Jesus Christ, that strengthens me.

My prayers go out to this family, as I hate to hear someone having to go through this, but I can definitely tell you that my faith and love has grown leaps and bounds and I trust the Lord fully.

If you think it would help if I talk with the family, I would certainly love to help anyway I can.

Ke ben, The way to tell on Welsummer chicks is by the brown patch on their head. If it is very defined then it is usually a pullet. If it looks more washed out or irregular then it is usually a roo.
Not exact but has worked most of the time for me.

Okay, my husband just gave his authoritative order that the Welsummer flock must go. He has a love hate relationship with them and now he had ordered their execution (well from the farm, not from life. LOL). He is wanting to replace them with a more egg productive chicken. They are healthy.

So if anyone is interested, I have 4 hens and 1 rooster. They lay the darkest Welsummer eggs I have seen, they just don't lay often enough. They are gorgeous, but they are snotty (think they are better than all the other "common" chickens, and fickle with treats.

My husband is taking them to the sale this weekend so if anyone is interested let me know by then. I am asking $100 for the flock of 5 (I sell their eggs for $35 a dozen, so you would make that back in just 3 dozen)

Here is a picture of their eggs and the crew.
