Some breeds are naturally flighty and just really hard to tame.
That would be great if you and your daughter could stop by the show

Yes, I will be there!
It is a week from today, Oct. 3 in the Newcastle Fair Barn. These shows don't have an exact time since it just depends on how many birds there are and how long it takes to judge them.
If you come after 9:00 it will be officially "started", though you could come a bit earlier. It always lasts into the afternoon, but if I was you, I would be there at least by 1:00. I'm thinking in was ending at 2:00 last year, but when the birds are released, and everyone is running around with cages trying to get the right birds, it can be a bit hard to see and visit!

Finally I can rest this evening ... having to work 10 hours of overtime tonight 'til 2 am, so when I'm not busy I can sit & enjoy the Okies forum.

Betsy, the 2 silkies I bought from you have been happily adopted by a young splash roo and his 2 splash girls. They are doing great!

Thanks also to those I bought the Easter Eggers from. If they are pullets, they will soon be introduced to one of my young blue copper marans to hopefully create some olive eggers. Gerald really wants some army green egg layers.

I sure wish I had had more time to visit with everyone yesterday. That's the bad thing about having brought our own birds to sell ... having to feed & water all of them, etc. I didn't get much time to visit. I did get to briefly meet a few during the donation auction, only because they brought me the money. Sorry I couldn't visit then!!! Darn that volunteering to help on the auction ... I couldn't see most of the stuff I wanted to bid on or I was too busy taking money to even know what was being auctioned at the time. I would have bought more stuff then though .... I sure wanted to bid on okrobin's paintings too. Hopefully there will be another opportunity at next year's get-together

I sure look forward to seeing the video of the Constant Sorrow performance. I need to see it again, since watching it in person was nearly impossible because I was laughing so hard I had tears in my eyes. You guys were great! I should have asked for your autographs!

Oh, and I never had a chance to talk to Les about birds. I didn't even know he had brochures on diagnosing and medicating birds. Hopefully we can get a copy soon. Maybe I can get a copy from Maribeth when we return her turkey cage in the near future.

Big Al, I hope you made it home OK and have had a chance to rest up & relax. You took the leadership role in the get-together and made the event the BEST EVER and one that will be remembered for years! I can't thank you enough! All you other volunteers were AWESOME too! I will always have fond memories of this event because of ya'll!

I'm so sorry there were many that were unable to attend. Hopefully they get the opportunity next year.

For Silkies, I put three drops on the back of their necks. You have to get down to the skin. I put two drops on smaller birds.

I've been told you can't overdose, but I find that hard to believe; BUT, when I was appying it Friday, I acidentally knocked the bottle off, and quite a bit of it went right on the head of a pretty young white silkie, turning her entire crest blue. So far she's none the worse.

wonder how long her crest will stay blue - you may have found a way to develop temporary coloring in chickens.

Yes, I show my birds on a limited basis. I've really shown them only in support of friends who are really good breeders, but my flock is improving a lot now. I've ony shown in Pryor and Shawnee.

The first year I had Showgirls, I brought a few to the Guthrie show to sell. Didn't show any, and haven't been back--only because of time and energy constraints.

I'll show a few in Shawnee and will have some for sale as well. Their shoe is always the second weekend in December. It is a really nice, big show, and well worth the effort of going for anyone who enjoys poultry! They also apparently always have a pigeon show in an adjoining arena at the same time. I had no idea there wer so many different kinds of beautiful pigeons and doves!

Cammie,

Thank YOU for sitting next to me. I really enjoyed visiting with such a fine young lady! On my other side was Grace, another fine young lady! How lucky can one be?

Graceful - if you are wondering what happened to your DE - it is still in my van
roll.png
I totally forgot about it until I went to start loading stuff up last night and there it sits, wrapped in a colorful table cloth that I used to prevent getting the DE on the floor of the van. I didn't unload it at the KOA clubhouse yesterday morning because it is so bulky and can be messy - then totally forgot to tell you where it was. Sorry.

Yes, it was great to meet you two at testers school. We'll probably see each other in OKC again next spring, as I think we have to go to a follow-up school to keep our certification.

You give me too much credit; I'm still learning myself. I've had some really good teachers, and I've done quite a bit of research, plus a lot of learning from doing.

I can't thank the two of you for all your help! As soon as I got there, you were helping me unload and set up. Lots of support all day from you and others!

We're home and "partially" unloaded.....the rest can wait until
tomorrow.....LOL

MAJOR KUDDOS to the principals in this event !!!! And, a big
thanks to all the volunteers that took turns setting up, taking
down, cleaning up, policing the areas, etc. And, a special
"thanks" to our young BYC'ers that willingly stepped in and
pulled up the slack when needed. Where else on earth could
you find a group that some of it's newest members step up
and volunteer to "pitch" ,"catch", and "cover first base" in their
spare time???????? (Was the only way I could think of to even
try to describe the contribution.)

The raffle, the auctions, the activities for the children, the FOOD,
and then the ENTERTAINMENT !!!!!! ...... Completely over the
top !!!!!!!!!! When available...the video is a MUST !!!!! LOL

Thanks to everyone. This was an awsome weekend !!!!!

Carla - I don't know how you manage to keep going with a schedule that requires you to work nights and overtime. I came home this morning after getting the last of my stuff loaded and crashed. Slept 4 hours. I need to get the baby chicks that Jaxon won in the kids auction (thanks Monty

) and the chicks that we went ahead and bought to keep them company - into a brooder and out of the cardboard box.

I was sooo glad that you and a few others borrowed the cages that held birds for sale in the auction. My mini-van was full last night without those large cages and I was grateful that others are delivering my cages back to me at a later time.
