Carah so sorry hun, I got it figured out. I am the "owner" of the page and I have a different view of things than a member does. I figured since it would let anyone upload pictures it would also let them change the focus pictures. You see where I am talking now.......Cammie with the snake, Big Q with his pride and joy quilt and the cochins that was fought for in the auction.

I never want to see another sceen likt that again. Grace is holding up pretty well I think. I am the problem. All I could do was cry. That is the hardest think I have ever done with pets. All I could think of was what could I have done to prevent this from happening. You can bet the trap will be set tonight but that won't help the Hamburgs. I am going to be rebuilding some of our pens and making sure that they are as secure as possible. I know I can't stop everything but I can sure do better than I have in the past.

Bless your heart! I know you will correct anything you see as a problem but it really isn't your fault. It happens to the best of us that think we have done everything we possibly could have. I hope you an Grace don't give up! She is such a fine young person and you are one awsome dad that makes sure she is able to be a part of the chicken world!

Do the best you can! I hate it when it happens to my girls too!

If Grace is good and ready, maybe she can get ahold of Jim LaGendre out in Washington or Oregon for replacements. I am certain he will sell her the "cream of his crop" of Silver Spangled hamburgs.

Or someone got some of her Hamburg eggs and got chicks that are already grown up to sell back to her.

Lets hope for the best! I love those Hamburg Bantams!

My boyfriend of 4 years is a Marine SSgt in the F (Fox) battery here in OKC (across from Tinker AFB, he's a reservist). He's awesome with power tools and loves carpentry and woodwork... and while he may think that I'm somewhat crazy sometimes because of my zoo, he fully supports and sometimes even enables me.

I've asked him for a banty coop, he told me to find something that I like and he'll build it.

We have a couple of Marine vets on our board. And we have Al. He's ex-army but he's ok. You can't have too many Marines.

I will have to make sure my DH comes to the next one so he can join your little group.

I am so, so sorry Grace and Grace's Dad. I understand the feeling. A few weeks ago, I lost 60 chickens, 2 ducks and 1 turkey to my husband's bird dog. Thought we had done everything to prevent her from getting into the pen, but where there is a will...
Don't beat yourself up about it. When animals like that decide to get in, they will keep trying until they do. And if you haven't faced that type of threat before, you don't know how to prevent it. Big hugs for both of you.

Raccoons are evil. I used to think they were cute, but I know better now. God created them with that criminal mask for a reason. I am so, so very sorry this happened to any of your flock, much less your prize-winning birds. I know you've worked so hard with them, and I wish there was something I could say to make you feel better. Hugs to you, Grace. You are such a good person and I'm so sad for you. I hope you can soon rebuild your flock. If I had SQ Hamburgs I would happily give them to you. I know your dad is upset, too - please give him a hug from me.

You are such an awesome dad. Try not to spend too much energy beating yourself up...these things happen to all of us. I've worked to reinforce my runs and coops but I am still wary of raccoons - I'm afraid if they have enough time they'll figure out a way to get to my birds. I've had good luck trapping the coons at my place - just have a plan for what to do with them once you have them contained. I'm so sorry Garry - please give Grace a hug from me!
