welcome to the best group of enablers on this site. If you don't already have an addiction to poultry auctions, hatching eggs or acquiring poultry - we will help you acquire an addiction. If you are already addicted, that is even better. If you are looking for a 12 step program to help you lose the addiction - sorry, we don't have any qualified group leaders here

How far are you from Salina? Bill Braden is a renowned breeder of Cuckoo Marans. He probably won't have any available but to get the best birds close by he would be the guy to see. I am sure they would be high though.

See if you can find the bloodlines from the guy in Joplin. See what he would sell a trio for. You just don't need to invest in an extra rooster just to get another hen.

For those of you looking for a processor who will butcher and process your chickens for you, I talked to Raymond Jones from Tahlequah (closer to Gideon) yesterday when he delivered processed chickens to OKC from his new USDA inspected plant. He will process your chickens for you for a very reasonable price. (he told me $1.50 per bird, yesterday) He will also sell you Hubbard chicks at his cost of 40 cents each for day olds, picked up at his facility. His phone number is 918-207-7181.

Yesterday, they delivered chickens that had been raised and processed at their facility by Tahlequah - 7-9 lb roasters for $5. They were nice. They sold out before all the pre-orders could be filled, but plan to bring another truck load to OKC next week (they were delivering to Tulsa today). If you are interested in any roasting chickens, to be delivered next week in OKC or Tulsa, send an email to osborn.nancy @ gmail.com (no spaces) The chickens are fed a vegetarian based feed, no antibiotics and allowed out of their cages to roam during daylight hours.

I would really like to see this Oklahoma based processor get going strong - since I currently skin my birds rather than going to the trouble and mess of plucking them, because there hasn't been anywhere I could take them for processing. Of course, if they can keep their price at $5 for a 7-9 lb roaster, that would be much better than raising them myself.

Monty he sent me pics of the birds and the eggs to my cell phone and the eggs almost look like chocolate. Is that good? I know nothing about Marans so please forgive my stupidity!! As far as the bloodlines he said he has a friend that raises them so wasnt much help at all

Thats really not a bad price for a good roo and you are gonna need one anyway if you plan to keep them pure. I would sure give $30 for a trio if I wanted them. If you can get them for $25 even better but $30 is a good deal for a nice trio.
The hens are worth $15 each easy so you can look at it like your getting the rooster for free.
