Thanks Sooner.... i used to do alot of stuff like that and am getting in that mood again! i am so tired of overpaying for everything- my daughter was spending $14 a pop for laundry soap- a week, with a large family they get yam so - she cut that down to $3 a batch

those were bees on the hummingbird feeder, they left after a few hours, after i moved the other feeder, and the guineas sat on the rail watching them swarm, not sure if they were snacking on them or not!

my daughter started doing that, and says suddenly the kids with skin allergies don't have em anymore- what recipe did you use for it?

I found it on self seficent web site linked at the bottom of this, there are several, I used the dry one.....I will have to look it up again I have it in my book that I am too lazy to get up and get.

Here it is;

Powdered Laundry Detergent (My favorite)
1 cup grated Fels Naptha Soap
1/2 cup washing soda
1/2 cup 20 mule team borax

Mix and store in airtight container or bag. For light loads, use 2 tablespoon. For heavy loads, use 3 tablespoons. To make a large batch - grate 6 bars of Fels Naptha Soap and then add 3 cups of Washing Soda and 3 cups of 20 Mule Team Borax. Mix well and store in covered container.

I could never find the Fels Naptha soap but used Ivory & carlise.

What is "washing soda?"

Oh hey - before I forget...if you get a chance, watch OETA this Sunday Oct. 18 at 9:30 p.m. They're showing a 30-minute documentary about Special Olympics Oklahoma that I helped a little on. It highlights a few of the great Special Olympics athletes we have in our state - it's called I Am a Champion. I promise you will learn something!

Hey Big Q! Yes, I was replying to posts as I was catching up earlier - I didn't notice until I was caught up that I'd been posting to myself!

The probably are not actually "swarming" but it looks like they are cleaning up any sweet residue on the hummingbird feeder. I guess they are bees, and trying to lay in some food for the winter. That top thing resembles a wasp and if they are wasps, all bets are off as I am fairly clueless about them except that they don't do anything according to rhyme or reason.

Honeybees won't try and sting you unless you are close to their hive and they are defending their brood (baby bees) or you are off somewhere and swatting at them.

so does that mean we are going to have a bad winter? my FIL said he'd never seen them do that around here... no, they didn't do any harm, just kind of amazing to watch

Swarming bees are awesome... we had some in our tree in California one time. They covered the whole trunk of this huge alder tree...I woke up and they were gone....but they were very kind...All of us went and got up close and gawked and they never stang a soul....I love bees... they come to my crepe myrtle...I love watching wimpy chicks run from them.....

Fried potato's fried until almost done, throw in onions, meat (bacon, smoked sausage or ham) then at the very last eggs, fried until the eggs are done, it is awsome. I will never learn to make it as my hubby fry's potato's nice and crispy where I turn them to mush. He also knows how to drain the grease at just the right time before the eggs.

We make this all the time. The easy way to get the potatoes crispy fast is to use a deep fryer to cook the potatoes and when they are ready put everything in a skillet until its all done. We use the cheap smoked sausage when we make it. And I mean the cheap stuff. The name brand stuff usually ends up having more grease in it.
