I hadn't even heard of an Amish auction in Calera. I knew you had to watch for them on the way to Ada on Hwy 78 and occasionally you see a few in Walmart. But I didn't know any were closer.

Grace, why does everyone else know what's happening right here under our noses that we don't know about?

So where exactly is it in Calera? Where do you find out which days it is on?

I agree, Sherri

I'm thinking it must have been something we've gone to (or at least heard of!) but maybe under a different name?? I bet it's the Farm Days at the Esbenshade's (spelling?) because I think there are vendors there, and I know there is stuff for sale....

Grace & Sherri - It's called the Clarita Amish Auction. It is held at the Ben Troyer Farm at Hwy 31/48 in Coal County. The amish do this to raise money for their school system. Projected attendance 10,000.

Congrats luv2b, those are the best, when you think that there no way in the world they stand a chance. Is it a cochin? On the feeders, yes they are the ones with the 5 gal buckets and a pan underneath. Mine are more like 7 or 8 gal buckets so I screw through the bucket bottom and pan into a 2x4 laid flat for stability plus it gets them out of the dirt. You want a funnel almost the size of the inside bottom of the bucket to push the feed out to the pan through holes drilled in the side. Sorry if that confuses you more. Al might explain much better.

Okay, I looked it up on the map. I was thinking it was 78 that went to Ada from Durant. It's 48. That's where I knew some Amish were. They have a sign up on 48 where I believe there are some stores that are normally open. I've heard of the auction but never knew when it was. I see they have it once a year in September.

I've always wanted to stop but seem to be late for where I was going. Maybe I'll have to make a special trip.

I've seen them out in their buggies. Of course, most people seem to be going too fast & careless around them.

I feel better now knowing that there isn't one in Calera though. I would have felt like I was really running around with tunnel vision if that was the case.

Edited to add a forgotten word.

I don't remember being in Clarita, or is that just the auction name?

Some of the rest of the sun-baked, wind-blown flock. I wish that the pics/weather were better and that they were cleaner and better feathered but here they are.

Ok, I got the paddles.

I would like to say that I think your mutt ducks are very pretty. What are they mixed with?

P.S. I was trying to wait until I got off work to respond, but the thread needed reviving.
