He's more red in the face than I prefer, I like them as close to black as possible. Sometimes exposure to the sun helps. How old is he and is he still in molt?

His face/comb/wattles were considerably blacker but went more red as the summer went on. He is only 8 months old and I haven't see any new feather growth yet this fall, he was much fuller at the beginning of summer. This is the first cool day we have had so far though (mid 50's) so we'll see.

Welcome to one of the friendliest groups in Oklahoma. Disclaimer ~ if you don't already have an addiction to poultry auctions, hatching eggs or acquiring poultry, this group has a bunch of "enablers" who don't like to be alone in their addictions, so we like to get everyone else "hooked" also. What kind of poultry do you have and what are you wishing you had?

Looks like Cleo didn't get an answer to her question and I'm of no help. The only pigeons I'm familiar with are the 'rats with wings' on the top of some buildings I've been on.

I just thought that I would bump it out there again for her.

Congrats County.

Sooner-On the water heaters, as long as you don't use too high wattage of a bulb, no fire hazard because heat rises into the water. An electrocution hazard maybe, if they get wet.

I think I could make it sealed......I am playing with some idea's on that end.....guess I will have to give up and ask my boss the electrician.....

I am just hoping not to have to bust water in every pen considering I am up to5 pens and will be 6 soon as they are a little bigger.

We never bust the water, we do check them periodically through the day though. We use those rubber tubs for water and they get frozen all ya have to do is toss them outside of their pens and they ice falls out, and usually the water underneath because we have rarely had it freeze solid and only then if it is in the morning when we open. If the ice doesnt want to just fall out if ya take the heel of you shoe and thump it the ice will then fall out.

A heated waterer would be better, but I just thought I would mention that too.

well, I won't actually have by chickys until spring, but I'm thinking Buff Ops. Mutli-purpose, very pretty, good layers, good for meat. It's kinda hard to say without hand on experience, but that's probably where I'll start.

can't wait!!

Got my application in with Chesapeake; not holding my breath or anything, but if it works out that would be awesome! I will definitely finish school though, whether I get the job or not. I'm so close!
