Okies in the BYC The Original

A cattle auction eh? I think one of the better ones in the state is at Covington. The town is on 74 hiway north of OKC a bunch and they have a good auction there. You can actually understand the auctioneers and if they know your name once they know it forever! Cattle are set-in solid and a lot of order buyers are there too. They start at noon and sometimes run past 5, depends on season of course. I like to go just to watch it, it's that well run.

Our female GP is named Sassy also, to funny. Yes we had both our GP's fixed. They are wonderful dogs. And yes after the 1st year they are almost human. My male Smokey is the boss around here when Sassy lets him be. Hubby just got in from being out of town almost 2 months, and we have a christmas party to go to on saturday, so NOT sure if I will make shawnee. Maybe early and then go to the party after. Party does not start till 5.

Had about 125 chicks hatch over the past 2 weeks. I am done until next month.

ok... I am having a suckie day...decided to cull cockerals.

Found out my trusty axe is not big enough to do older chickens. Necks are tough! (thought of your turkey Al...) The first one was ok..the last one was horrible! My ax is 1 1/2 lb camp ax. Mikarod says I need to go to at least 3 lbs.. or shoot them in the brain with BBs. What a disaster. I have one more to do...what a mess. I don't know if I can swing the bigger ax... the handle is too long. Mik said to cut off the handle... but if that doesn't work... Ive ruined an axe. Any ideas O beloved okie peeps? I tried the standing ion the rake handle method for one of them. I thought I killed him... he was just laying there all floppped over. I moved the rake and off he went. I had to run him down...THEN chop...chop...chop......chop.....chop...chop....

Ok was looking up machetes and killing chickens on the web and found this sight http://accessnorthgeorgia.com/detail.php?n=166769. This story was a scream...especially at the end. Note: If I ever caught kids stealing my hens for fun like this... they wouldn't have to worry about community service.

Without sufficient arm strength, a three pound axe can wobble and leave a few fingers on that chopping block as well. A machete is lighter and better balanced and safer. Personally, I just lock a PETA member in the coop with them and let him bore them to death with tales of how much better they should be treated. But if you're in a pinch for time, a machete will do.

Well fellow Okies, it doesn't look like I am going to be able to make Shawnee.. After months of waiting and planing it looks like life is going to get in the way

I was really hoping..oh well maybe next year..does anyone know about a show in Pryor in march?
