With Pen I give 1cc twice daily and Pen-G I only give it every other day as it is the long lasting version of regular Pen. And it doesn't matter whether bantam or large. Still give 1cc.

Here's your penicillin post, Shavon!

Well the eggs were supposed to be yours, but someone (DH) put them in the incubator. He was trying to help me out because I was at work. He knew I was going to put some eggs in, but didn't know I was only doing chicken this time. Only eight ended up being fertile, but what ever hatches is yours.

Henny - thanks but in that post, he doesn't say whether he injects it or not.

Yep I inject most of the meds I give as it gives a good boost right at first when it is needed.

The left would be the chicken's left because the crop is on the right side. If there is not enough flesh on the breast use the thigh.

Forgot to add, unlike other critters go in at an angle insted of straight and inject on the way out. Sometimes finger pressure is called for to keep it from leaking too.

Thanks Les. Now last question for today. Would you still give 1 cc to a 1/2 grown BB Red. It seems like an awful lot for a little bitty babe like mine. He has got the puffy, foamy eye that goes along with URI. He only stands about 5 inches tall and when he's on my shoulder, I can't feel he's even there because he is such a light weight.

This crap is going through everything right now. I don't know why either. My juvie pen is inside my adult pen, so that they are always in contact. It makes integrating a lot easier, but it also means they pass germs back and forth. My adults free range all the time and would come in contact with them anyways. I keep losing meat birds like crazy. It has all happened since the dog attack the other day. They killed three birds and I have lost four since then and all my birds are getting sick. Could the dogs have brought something into my yard? I don't know, but it sure feels like it at this point. The worse ones are the meat birds who had direct contact with the dogs, next would be the adult chickens because they free range and occasionally get in the pen with the meat birds, the ones showing least amout of symptoms are the guineas, ducks, and juvies that don't free range but they have contact with the adult chickens. I'm thinking of locking everyone in their coops for a few days and medicate everything on the property, ain't noone going outside and spreading this crap anymore. I have to figure something out to cover all my pens. Right now the only pen with a top is the juvies. I haven't had any predator problems other that the dogs and that one has been permanently resolved.

The main school of thought is that chickens harbor many illnesses and when they get stressed then it allows the illnesses to come to the surface. A dog attack is a stress factor for sure.

Chances are too that the dogs could have either gotten someones elses chickens or gotten wild birds even which could have brought in the illness.

is it the wafer type or the electronic thermostat.

May need to change the wafer. With the electronic one make your temp changes hours apart. When setting them up it often takes days to do it. If you are going to use a turner be sure to have it in and running while you play with the temp.

as with all keep away from direct sunlight and vents for a/c and heat.

I did that the other day! I was holding my Black Cochin (see avatar), and this other rooster decided to attack him. I put my hand up to block him from hurting that gorgeous Cochin, and I have several scratches to show for it
